Hotel Peace Island Miyakojima

It's located in the downtown area, so it's a very convenient location. There's a Blue Seal store within walking distance. The building is old, but it was clean and comfortable. As our main purpose in the trip was to do marine activities, it was nice to have a washer/dryer in each room. (You can also purchase detergent at the front desk for 50 yen per use.) The breakfast was delicious, with Okinawan dishes such as chanpuru, mozuku seaweed, and yushi tofu. The one thing that bothered me was the sewage smell in front of the hotel. (Once inside the hotel, it didn't bother me.)

The location of the hotel is close to one of the main streets in Hirara with loads of restaurants. The rooms are large and clean. The staff is super friendly and did their best to communicate with us even though they spoke little english. The breakfast is ok for people from northern Europe with bread and yogurt, although it is even better if you enjoy eating Japanese food as breakfast. My only complain is the extremely hard beds that make it somewhat difficult to sleep. But after two days we got used to it.

Booked 5 nights as I wanted to explore Miyako. It's about 15 minutes or 1200Y away from the airport located in an alley with plenty of restaurants and 2 convenient stores. More or less opposite is a shop that rents bicycles if you think the ones from the hotel fall corrode into dust before you reach the next traffic light. Same shop rents scooters if you have an international drivers license. Bicycles go for 1000Y for a whole day versus Y800 from the hotel. Front desk are efficient but not always the happiest people. The room was okay but carpet needs a replacement and the walls a fresh coat. The coolest part was that it had a washing machine inside, together with microwave, kettle and fridge. They only serve breakfast which was just okay but I survived it. Okay choice for short stay
