We stayed here for 2 nights when we picked up our son from Japanese Center for Michigan Universities that is in Hikone. It’s a fine place to stay - very affordable, clean, with surprisingly spacious rooms. Bathrooms are equipped with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Rooms had a small fridge, and the hotel itself is steps away from the train station, and shops and restaurants. Hikone Castle is a 15 minute walk away. Breakfast was typical Japanese breakfast, but eggs and sausage (kind of hot-dog like) were available as well. Staff was helpful and pleasant. They spoke some English, but we used google translate and that worked, no problem. There was a cigar bar in the lobby that was kind of cool to have a drink at - it’s super smoky (of course, cigar bar) so we didn’t stay long, but had a nice glass of wine and single malt scotch whisky. Also they sold these super cute tea towels, that have Hikone-nyan, the town mascot, on them, and say “welcome to Hikone”. I am going to reach out to the hotel to order more of them, because they were a huge hit with friends and family as gifts :) If I’m ever in Hikone again, would def stay there again!

I stayed at Hotel Sunroute while in Hikone based off the location, price, and parking. The hotel had free parking a block or two away. Check in and out was simple and the staff was pleasant. I felt the rooms were ideal for what we needed. Nothing fancy but clean, spacious, and had everything we could ask for. This hotel was within walking distance from the station and castle. I would stay here again.

Location is excellent. Very easy to find and very close to the station. It is a nice hotel with nice friendly staff. Water is provided and service is great. The only shortcoming is the room and bed is too small even though we have made it clear during booking the number of persons staying. This is the only thing that could make our stay more comfortable. There are lots of restaurants around. It is also not far from the attractions.
