Walk through Iroha Slope to Lake Chuzenji. We stayed in a small hotel by the torii.
The compact twin rooms were comfortable and convenient. The inside & outside baths are almost reserved and luxurious.
The outer bath is sulphur-scented milky white, and the inner bath is colorless and transparent and gentle. Naturally take a long bath with cold fresh air...
Dinner is kaiseki style. Even new rice is delicious and very satisfying!
The location is good and I would like to stay again.

I stayed overnight with my wife. I was surprised to see a monkey in the parking lot. This hotel has the feel of a petite hotel, and you can feel the differentiation from the larger hotels.
I was happy to have a welcome drink at Chiecquin. However, since there is not a lot of space to wait, other customers can hear the explanation of accommodation plans by the staff. I thought it would be good if you could give this a little consideration.
The rooms are twin and not large, but they are very beautiful because they have been renovated, and the bath and toilet are separated, making it easy to use. The view of Lake Chuzenji from the window was also good. The public bath was relaxing with turbid hot springs and clear colorless hot springs. I used it twice, but strangely one or two people were gone. We were also served food that was devised for our meals and enjoyed it deliciously. The 11 o'clock chiek-out was nice and relaxing.

Hotel Hanaan was a great location to stay to visit nearby Nikko and as a car enthusiast it was a welcome location to be right at the top of Irohazaka. We had a room with a private onsen and the room was always well kept and had ample space. The views were spectacular of Lake Chuzenji and the Torii gate over the village. Honestly I was hopeful for the nearby restaurants but most of the ones within walking distance were a bit subpar and we had better luck at the bottom of the mountain.
The food served in the ryokan was as expected and as someone who doesn't eat a lot of sea food, they did go above and beyond to make sure I still had something for me to eat while my wife ate and enjoyed the standard menu. The staff was friendly and we were able to get by on English.
Overall it was a very memorable experience and probably one of the nicer rooms we've stayed in during our trips to Japan. This review is a bit late and we were really there in November 2019 - keep in mind that it does get colder and the foliage falls a lot sooner at that top than down below. So while Nikko was gorgeous, up at the lake it was definitely past it's peak and I wish we had gone a couple weeks earlier.
