Nikkosan BackPackers Inn

We stayed 2 nights in this hostel, but as usual, at our arrival I asked only for one night (4'000¥ for 2). I like to make sure the place is ok before booking longer. Appart from the weird tender, everything was ok, so the 2nd day, in the morning, we asked if we could stay one extra night for the same price, he said: "No problem". Coming back at 7 p.m., I proposed to pay him but he said he was busy and will come to us later. At 10p.m., I was the last one up (what he was waiting for), he jumped on me and asked for 5'020 ¥. I said "No, this morning we agreed for 4'000. Like yesterday..." "Yesterday was yesterday, tonight is tonight, now the price is 5'020 ¥" I answered "No, it's too late, take my 4'000 or call the police please, because we are not leaving!!!" I asked him several times to call the police, but not confident, he refused, and after 15min, he proposed us an alternative: YOU CAN SLEEP ON THE BACKPACKER'S ROOM SOFAS FOR 4'000 ¥!! Fed up with this situation, I managed to negotiate one bed for my girlfriend for 2'500 and took the sofa for the night :/ For the record, the dormitories were almost empty... And even messing with me in the morning... CRAZY!! I travel a lot, but I have never seen anything like that. And I am even more chocked that it happened here, in Japan...

The greatest thing here is the person who took the pictures posted on booking. Place is uncomfortable and lacks the usual hostel facilities such as a laundry room or several showers. It is not clean. Our room was called "the loft" when in fact was like a storage room with difficult to access, with a futon on the floor and no privacy. Please, do not commit the same mistake as we did. Also, you can see the full village attractions in half day.

We stayed in the loft with the small double bed. It was very cold outside when we visited, but our bed was nice and warm. Dinner and breakfast were beautifully prepared and tasty (although a little small for our big western bellies). We felt welcome and really enjoyed our stay.
