Hotel Meigetsu

We only stayed here one night. But found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We arrived about 2 hours before check-in time and were given our room straight away. And the staff had excellent English, so communication was not a problem. This is the perfect place for those travelling on a tight budget. Yes the rooms are small (if you have a lot of luggage there won't be much room to walk around!) but they are very clean and have everything you need for a stay in Tokyo (including a tv). They provide tea, coffee and drinking water as well as a small kitchen with a hotplate and microwave. There are many restaurants nearby if you don't want to cook. The bathrooms are shared but they were clean and I never had to wait to use them. It is about 10 minutes walk from Minami-Senju station. Overall I really enjoyed my brief stay at this hotel.

We stayed here for four nights and we enjoyed it! The price is really good, VERY clean, friendly staff and easy to reach by metro. The kitchen is well equipped and there are enough places to do groceries, even a Burger King.

I stayed at the hotel twice - for a week in April 2018 and three days in July 2018. The toilets and showers are shared, but rooms are separate - no shared rooms that are common when it comes to cheap accommodation. The single room is small but sufficient - a bed, TV, small desk, air conditioning. All is neat and clean. Only drawback is that you can hear all sounds from the corridor or next room, but most people took care in not making much noise when walking at night when I was there. There is a shared fridge available on the corridor, writing your name and room number on the item you put in is recommended. There is also a shared kitchen equipped with a free coffeemaker and cups, hotplate (you can do some simple cooking - if I remember correctly, they also have some basic condiments available)? Washing your laundry is also possible. You can find drinkable water on the corridor. The hotel is not in the centre of Tokyo, but well accessible with two train stations - Minami-Senju (Hibiya subway line, Joban/Tokyo-Ueno Line) and Senju-Ohashi (Keisei Line) - about 10 minute walk away. You need to change trains and it might take about an hour to reach the central Tokyo such as Shinjuku or Shibuya, but it didn't bother me as I had a loose schedule - the price of 3,300 yen per night (discount for staying more nights, if I remember correctly) that I thought wasn't possible within the 23 wards of Tokyo for a separate single room entirely made it up for me! Once you ride the train, you're pretty close to Ueno, with its famous shopping streets, park and other attractions. There is also a convenience store open for 24 hours a few minute walk away from the hotel and some places to eat around the Minami-Senju station. The hotel's front door being open 24 hours a day and no need to give your key to the receptionist when you go out is also convenient - many lodging facilities in this price category tend to have a curfew. I especially recommend this hotel to single travellers who mostly just need a place to sleep, take a shower and have a coffee, don't require much service and like to move freely. I can speak Japanese, but I believe there shouldn't be any problems with communication in English as most of the guests staying there were foreigners.
