Capsule Hotel & Spa The Nell Ueno

Good location, near Ueno station, near Ameyoko market, has an English-speaking receptionist. The onsen is in the basement. Closed from 10:00 a.m. to around noon (subject to change). Must change shoes before staying. In the lobby there is space to sit, a water dispenser, and lockers for rent to store your luggage. If staying multiple nights, check-out is not required nightly. When going out, the key must be left in the lobby.

This is a simple no frills capsule hotel. Men only. I chose it for price value and distance to Ueno train station (JR line) and walking distance to some sites. Older interior in need of a refresh but clean. WiFi works. Spa area is small with one hot tub/Jacuzzi. There is a pleasant water/tea drink dispenser there. No food options or lounge area. There is a small room off the lobby that has a table, chairs, tv(Japanese programing) where you can eat. I would recommend exploring the neighborhood. There are some good eats within walking distance on both sides of the train station. The desk staff was helpful with limited English. It appeared that this was business oriented with only a few tourists. Lockers are available. Pajamas and slippers are provided and as I learned were some of the capsule life rules.

This capsule is slightly more expensive than around ueno. But you get what you pay for. It is clean and very quiet. I had a great rest at night. I arrived beyond midnight and the guy the at counter was polite and helpful. While we cannot eat anywhere except the first floor, the eating place is thoughtful with TV and tissue paper for you. They have lockers for your use (free for small) but if u need to keep your luggage, u need to pay. It has nice hot water bath or sento (I don't think it's onsen as it is not spring water) with water and coffee. Overall it is a classy capsule and I would definitely recommend this place as I have been to Tokyo more than 11 times over the years, this is a good capsule and I hope they maintain it!
