HOTEL MYSTAYS Ueno-Iriyaguchi

The Best thing going for this hotel is its central location. Ueno is a huge hub with easy connectivity to many destinations and tourist spots in Tokyo. The famous Senso-ji temple is a straight 15 minutes walk from this hotel, the Tokyo Skytree is two metro stops away. The beautiful Ueno Park and the Tokyo Museum are also 15 minutes walk away. The other huge benefit is that the Narita Skytrain to Ueno station is 15 minutes walk from the hotel, so accessibility to the airport is easy. While the room size is as per Tokyo hotels, which is pretty small, all amenities that you require are taken care of, including a kettle a refrigerator and a small kitchen area. Tea/coffee, milk and sugar satchets are available in reception, you can collect them as required. In spite of the small bathroom, it does have a bath tub. Bathroom amenities are provided for including a hair dryer. Additional amenities are available free of charge at the reception. One additional feature of this room is a small balcony. Though it does not have much of a view, it is a rarity inTokyo and hence deserves a metion. The service is helpful and friendly. However, our bathroom lock was not working, we requested it to be fixed while we were stepping out. On our return we were told that it has been fixed, but we found that it hadn't been fixed, that was the only negative experience. It was raining in Tokyo during our stay at this hotel, they had free umbrellas which we could use as required. This was a huge benefit since we were not carrying umbrellas. The rooms are clean and quiet, the bed is comfortable and we had sound undisturbed sleep. All things considered, this hotel is recommended as a great value option for your stay in Tokyo

If this was half the price, it would be ok. Just. But we paid similar amounts for much better accommodation elsewhere. Two stars for basic institutional-feeling accommodation with ok staff. The missing three are for the lax security, the worn and drab decor, the doors that open into the hallway so you can take out a fellow inhabitant, the small and overwhelmed lift, and the fact that nobody - nobody - looked happy to be there. Ueno is not the end of the universe, in fact around the corner - literally - is a MyStays that looks lovely! It was booked out. So we got its poor cousin. If this is what passes for standard priced accommodation in Tokyo we will give the whole joint a miss. Hiroshima MyStays on Peace Park there is terrific. Go there.

The hotel is very far walk from Keisei Ueno station, about 20min walk if you are dragging a luggage. However, it was about 5min walk (or lesser) from Inaricho subway station exit 3, about 5 to 10min walk from Ueno station Iriya exit (which was at the corner end of Ueno station) The room was small, quite run down, and abit dirty too. The basin in bathroom was mouldy, and the wardrobe was having some cracky sound when you opened them. Lack of maintenance obviously. The room come with individual controlled aircon, microwave, induction cooker and a kettle.
