Ueno Sutton place Hotel

I recently stayed at Sutton Place Hotel from December 3rd to December 9th and wanted to share my thoughts. Firstly, while I appreciated the eco-friendly approach, the price of over 1,000 HKD per night set my expectations high. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of my room fell short—there was mold on the bathroom walls and shower curtain, and dust on the wooden floor. Security was another concern. The front desk is on the third floor, making it easy for anyone to access guest floors via the elevator, which doesn't feel very secure. I think it would be beneficial to offer guests the option to choose daily room cleaning. This would strike a better balance between sustainability and comfort. Additionally, I found the staff could be more proactive in engaging with guests. The assistance I received on December 6th was great, and it would be nice to see that level of attentiveness consistently. For the price, I believe guests shouldn’t have to tidy up or request basic amenities daily. I hope my experiences can help improve future stays at Sutton Place.

The hotel is conveniently located to Ueno train station - unfortunately only on the "wrong" side, and right next to the high road. All around is little, a few small restaurants, the nearest mini market in the side street. The house does not make much impression, some looks shabby, already the former red awning above the entrance, especially the fire escape in the outdoor area, the doors. The reception area is in the 3rd floor. Floor. A combined room where you can sit and drink coffee, and reception counter. To check in you have to fill out the guest form here via a website. The counter is occupied until midnight. Check out is noon, if you want to stay longer, it is possible for 1000 yen per additional hour. I had chosen the hotel because of the "junior suite". This is spacious, a small living area with 2 sofas, table, sideboard with TV, safe, kettle. The sleeping area has two separate beds, each a good 110 cm wide and nice and comfortable. Pleasant is the wooden floor, the furniture looks well maintained. The wooden blinds, on the other hand, are dusty, but you don't need to open them anyway, because a high street leads almost directly past the window of the bed side (4th floor). Floor), the window in the living area is just fake. Therefore, artificial lighting is also required during the day. The street noises are not absolutely disturbing, but subliminally always present, sometimes louder. The bathroom is bare and sober, functional, no more. Tub and shower curtain, no shelf space, only hooks for towels. There is actually a fridge, while the description says the "well-equipped kitchen with stove and microwave" is not available. We weren't bothered by this - but anyone who values it should make sure in advance. For the reasonable price you can endure it here two nights, but again I would certainly not choose this accommodation.

Situated near Ueno JR station, convenient place to stay. Via JR station, link to various attractions such as Ueno Park with its iconic Starbucks, plenty of museums and the Zoo. Basic amenities all in place, staff does English well and suitable for one night stay.
