Koyasan Shukubo Fudoin

What an experience! The temple is stunning and well run! And the food? I felt like I was at an acclaimed restaurant -- it was clear a high level of attention to detail and care were put into food preparation. Highly recommend joining morning prayer; it was such a warm, inclusive space.

We spent a night at Fudo-in Temprl and were very pleased with our stay here. After our arrival we were accompanied by one of the monks to the room, which was really beautifully designed and decorated. You sleep typically Japanese on a futon on the floor, which was surprisingly comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were included in our arrangement and were both very tasty, although getting used to for the European palate. Soup, rice and vegetables for breakfast may not be for everyone now. But this is much more about the authentic experience and trying something unusual. Even the shared bathroom is perhaps a bit unusual for Europeans:inside. Shower is done sitting on a stool and then we go to the hot water pool for relaxation. Just wonderful. Be sure to attend the morning ceremony. It was an unforgettable experience and a very peaceful start to the day.
