Note the back road from Yonago down to the town of Tsuwano, with its 1000 Tori Gates, is a gem of a back roads rural drive; especially in autumn. City centre hotel with some / limited on site free car parking. Friendly and efficient check-in. Our std twin room #118, while on the ground floor, was away from the busy front street and we could partly open a window to let in some fresh air. In room air con controls too. Clean and sort of comfortable; but the smallest bathroom of our 4+ week Japan road trip and a small twin bed room overall. Very, very thin pillows too, that the reception desk were able to assist with by supplying a very limited set = 2 western style pillows. Beds too soft for our liking also. Lots of eating options nearby including in the Aeon Mall, across from the main railway station. All walkable.

I booked a non-smoking room and got a smoking room. Usually these business hotels are not bad, but that in 2019 there are still hotels that allow smoking? But here you go. At least you can open a window.

Pros: - comfortable beds - spacious rooms - although the staff couldn’t speak much English, they still got their point across and were very friendly. One even lugged our very heavy bags around to hold them while we were out for the day. - 10 (max) minutes from the Hōfu Station - near 7-11, Family Mart and McDonald’s Cons: - the only one we can think of is that we have to hand our key over when we leave for the day. But that’s typical for hotels, we assume. Overall, a nice hotel with comfortable beds. Our only gripe was that we didn’t realise how far Hofu was from big cities, such as Shin-Yamaguchi. For the area, though, this hotel is great.
