Grand Hotel

This is far from Grand. My room was noisy, with an inch gap under the door which meant noise travelled from the corridor. The noise from the street was also clear despite the windows being shut. Bring earplugs. The curtains look like they're from a pair but are each on a window of their own so they dont quite cover the window appeture. My room did have decent aircon which is a plus and thr water pressure in the shower good. Finally - dont use the laundry service unless you really have to - its exceptionally expensive.

This hotel was in a good location, easy walking distance to the central attractions. There was a nice welcome from the staff on arrival. My room was on the first floor and there was no lift. The room was clean, the bathroom had a big shower Some toiletries were provided, however no shower cap. The bed was comfortable. There was a kettle with tea There was a fridge with many items for purchase There was Air con, but no safe! The Breakfast was very very poor, the food was close to inedible. All items were cold including the food that should be served warm. There was a very poor selection, there was instant coffee and tea bags. No proper coffee machine. Very little fruit, and the dried fruit on offer was like cardboard - inedible. Yet the food outside in so many food outlets, even hot food in supermarkets was so much better. Why can’t the hotel do better? I asked at reception for a map - they don’t offer a map. The lady on reception couldn’t really help me in where I should go for a walk or to see things. The Internet was very intermittent, kept dropping off.

When I walked into my room, even before when I walked into the hotel. It’s what I imagined a Soviet hotel to look like (although it was constructed recently I believe). I was wondering if the eyes in the painting would follow me??? The decor is straight out of Soviet times, hard bed, and ac that barely worked. The breakfast buffet provided a great selection of different things to try. I did some laundry here which I regretted instantly when it was returned as it had a smell to it. I stayed here as part of a work trip, I would not stay here as my choice. Seemed to be popular with a tour company, different group every day.
