I’m not sure what the options are in this small town (I was traveling as part of a tour group) but stay somewhere else if you can, this place is pretty awful. Claustrophobic rooms, dirty linen and bathroom. The air conditioner and fan work but that’s about it.

I try to forget this as soon as possible. Try some other hotel when in Pak Beng. Dirty sheets, bugs, and malfunction AC unit. Breakfast is mediocre. Wifi only in reception area. We had been warned that this place is not safe and that we had to watch our belongings. When there is no safe deposit box it is complicated. I wonder why they have not advised us to leave as much as possible stuff on the slow boat which we were going to board again the next morning. Steep walk on the bank from the Mekong to get to te shuttle bus.

We stayed one night at the Phetsokxai Hotel during our slow boat ride down the Mekong River. The hotel is on a hill, so it's a bit of a hike from the river to the hotel.
We were in room 105. This smallish room had a double bed, TV, A/C, a fan, WiFi, and US style plugs. But it did not have a safe, and we had no hot water in the room.
We had been told to leave our bags on the boat and only bring what was necessary for one night. That was good advice. The custom was to leave your shoes outside the room.
We had dinner at this hotel, and it was good. The breakfast had a few choices.
It was a steep walk back down to the boats the next day.
