Thavonsouk Resort

This is a very attractive series of (mostly) single storey rooms set among lovely gardens with beautiful flowers, each with their own little garden. It overlooks the river for wonderful sunrise/sunset views and photos. Rather touristy and sometimes very noisy when the boats get their engines going but once down the river, peace descends. Very convient for the river facilities as well as walking to nearby restaurants.

We thought the room was ok for the price, although there was a problem with water pressure in the mornings, with hardly any hot water and cold water down to a trickle.The location of the resort is very pleasant but is spoilt by several restaurants/bars along the river playing very loud music all day and evening, one of them until 3am each morning. Its a great shame because it would make a perfect spot for a relaxing peaceful break but is totally ruined by the noise.

If you are thinking you will sit on your patio overlooking the river and mountains, peacefully watching the sunset and sunrise with your glass of wine, think again. Bring your earplugs! Each morning and evening, there is non-stop, VERY LOUD, tourist boat traffic for several hours. The tourist boats dock immediately in front of the reception area. The bars opposite the hotel on the other side of the river play music starting in the morning until late into the evening. Just when you might get some peace later in the night, the bars behind the hotel crank it up into the wee hours. The only reason we stayed the second night was because we had paid in advance. We actually considered leaving and paying for somewhere else. The place itself is "OK", but rather run down for the price. The staff is generally apathetic to any concerns. And the beds are hard and springy. Long story short: do not stay here, it is bad value, unless of course, you love loud boat traffic and bar music day and night.
