Aseania Resort Pulau Besar

We stayed in this hotel in July 2022 for about 10 days. Pulau Babi Besar is less crowded and doesn't attract many Non-Malaysian tourists. The typical guests are people from Kuala Lumpur, which buy the 3 days - 2 nights package. First of all the good things. The management and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They do the best to provide you a pleasant stay at the hotel. The food was very tasty with a good variety. The beds in our hut were comfortable and clean. And if you walk about 500m to Bayu Lestari Hotel you'll find a stunning palmy beach, which is almost empty (3 days/2 nights package). Along the way you can find bats, monkeys and other animals. The not so good things: The entire hotel complex is run down. The huts and the pool area should have been renovated already 10-15 years ago. The bathroom in our hut was old and grimy. Be aware of cockroaches. You will get visited by them in several nights. The air condition was too noisy for me. There's no wifi at the hotel area. If you need an internet connection, buy a sim card at Mersing. Some facts about the island: The island has a really beautiful landscape with a mostly untouched nature. But most of the tourists don't care about the environment. So you'll find a lot of trash (plastic bottles, shoes, chips bags) in any place at the beach area. Especially the destination point of the jungle tour (you can do it easily on your own, no need for a guide) is a garbage dump. Near the hotel the government wanted to build a big shopping and restaurant complex, which is now an abandoned ruin. The dive center was closed at our stay. They provide a nice snorkel tour, but island hopping isn't possible. Snorkeling from the beach is not worth it. There's not much to see. And of course as other people already mentioned, you'll suffer a lot sand flies. In the hotel shop the sell an ointment to to suppress the itching. Overall without diving, internet and any other activities this island is a good place to stay all the day in a hammock on the beautiful beach and disconnect from modern busy life.

It only takes about 20 minutes to arrive by speedboat from the pier to Pulau Besar. . Compared with the food in Redang Island before, it is much more delicious. 3) The room layout is good, there is a large terrace, but there is no fan, so it is hot in the afternoon, and there are more mosquitoes at night. Our room has a queen size and a single bed, mini refrigerator, hair dryer , TV, kettle, etc. and also a safe. . Only the bathroom is narrow, but it is acceptable. . The room was clean and the bed was hard, but comfortable. . 4) All the staff of the hotel are polite, and the hotel's SOP is also worthy of publicity. . When arriving at the mersing terminal, the guests need to submit their 24-hour self-test new coronavirus test to the terminal customer service. If they confirm that it is negative, they can register for the speedboat. When they arrive at the hotel check-in, there are regulations for social isolation, so only 2-3 Individual line up. . During the meal, the hotel also arranged for each guest to have their own seat, and when taking food, it is also stipulated that masks and gloves 6) In fact, pulau besar is not big. We choose to ride a bicycle. . . And the bike can also carry children. 7) The hotel also has a swimming pool, but it may be a little lack of maintenance due to the epidemic, so we did not use it 😎 Although our vacation is at the end of October, the weather is no longer the same rainy season as before, but it is super sunny, so you can take great photos at any time. We also shot some wedding albums by ourselves, so satisfied 😎 9) The sunset view here is also amazing! So comfortable, I love it! Although it was only 4 days and 3 nights, it definitely gave us a very good anniversary celebration, and we will definitely go back again if we have the chance. Please bring your own bug removal spray as the beds are infested with HUGE BED MITES. People who were staying at the resort including me and my friends were covered in baking sodas because of the bites. The hotel staff just takes note and said that the bugs were coming in thru the window panels. Maintenance spray RIDSET insect spray on the mattresses. Spent money going to the clinic to get a jab. The scares are ugly on the feet and buttocks and it still itches until today when exposed to heat.
