Belum Rainforest Resort

You arrive in an environment that can offer a lot, but remains underused. As if there is no enthusiasm in the managers. More than half the menu is not available in the restaurant. A boat trip is not possible, because there is no staff, a drink is served basic without making an experience of it etc. Subsequently, the staff does not speak sufficient and inadequate English. Which is a shame for tourism. I don't recommend this stop.

A bit hesitant to book here, because of quite a variety in reviews… from the Netherlands I decided that we should take the chance because of a. huge infinity pool, b. the 3D2N package with full day boat excursion and c. the location close by road not too complicated to get there. No regrets!!! Upon arrival we had a warm welcome and the staff was very kind. We booked a Tualang villa at the water. Just wonderful, beautiful room, lots of wood, traditional. If you have the opportunity, do it. About the musquitos and Deet 40% which we forgot to bring: we worried for nothing. Just a few small bites. We had more bites on Penang!! The pool: even better than on the pictures. Gorgeous to swim here after a long drive or boatride. No alcohol: sounds like a downer, but once there really I didn’t miss it. The food: I think when you have the 3D2N package you get one dinner at the nice buffet restaurant above (Hornbill, outside guests and locals come here too!), and one at the sort of snack-restaurant at the water. Lots has been said about it, so we didn’t expect “George Town food”. We thought it was good, especially the buffet, but also the snackbar (we opted for local nasi) was fine. Noise from road: let’s not exaggerate this. Yes trucks drive by now and then. But the bridge is quite an infrastructural project as well, and we liked it. Animals: birds, monkeys are around, you see them. Hotel surrounding: it may seem like the garden and all goes around without effort, but patient gardeners are at work all the time, watering the plants and cutting off dead leaves. The gardens are lovely. Nature: we had a daytime on the boat, fantastic guide, we saw an elephant, eagles, a snake… the area is healing. A real nature resort. We will never forget this! Thank you!!
