The place definitely has a big wow factor by the location and the design of the wooden reception restaurants and chalets. Chalet was big and spacious. My son found it magical. But I find it a bit pricey especially for the level of maintenance (lights not working, no water for the tub only for the shower, leaking sink, phone to call reception not working). Rooms were done very roughly, bed was never fully done completely (duvet folded at the end of the bed). Restaurant is good with lots of options, but again super super pricey - a ginger lemon tea costs more than a beef kway teow at the RDC restaurant next door. Also they are very slow so if you have to leave at a specific time, I'd suggest going well early.

I made my booking in August of last year for a stay in May this year. 2026 prices had not been finalised but I was told that if I paid the deposit they would let me know the revised figure when 2026 prices were published. I suddenly realised a couple of weeks before I was due to stay that I had heard nothing, so chased. They replied hiking the price by over 17% and giving me 3 days to pay the balance or they would cancel the room and keep my original deposit. No sign of an apology for their omission in not letting me know the revised price earlier or requesting the balance payment on a timely basis. And a rather aggressive ‘not our problem’ attitude about other questions I asked. A big new single block circular hotel (not yet in use) with a huge and rather naïve mural has been built in the grounds of this hotel and rather spoilt the outlook over the lake. We asked to locate to a room that actually looked at the lake rather than the new building and this was done quickly. Room was OK, with a comfortable bed, but the air conditioning was in dire need of a service and struggled to cool the room sufficiently. Staff were friendly and helpful but the whole place has an air of being a bit tired. Having stayed in both Sepilok Forest Edge and Sepilok Nature Lodge within the last year, I would definitely choose Forest Edge if I were staying again – nicer rooms, much better service and food. The only possible reason to stay at Nature Lodge would be that is closer to the Orangutan and Sun Bear sanctuaries.
