This boutique hotel in Zihuatanejo on the Pacific coast of Mexico cantilevers down a cliff to the sea where surf crashes onto rocks and into crannies with a susurration that tires never. A lullaby at night, Mother Nature’s narration at day. Only 28 large rooms and suites with outdoor terraces and seating. All gracefully wearing folkloric art and elements, marble bathrooms, all with wide-open views of the bay and glorious sunsets. Some with private pools, most with shaded outdoor living rooms, all with a/c. Staff—Outstanding, readily available but not intrusive, helpful and kind. Housekeeping is exceptional. Daily treats delivered, ice delivered twice a day! Concierges forthcoming with options and transfers, excursions, town visits, gallery hopping. F&B—Dinner menu is seafood fluent, both simple prep and elevated. There’s usually lamb and beef. My only kvetch is the lack of Mexican peasant food which I love. Lunch menu is great and breakfast is downright fantastic. The lime pancakes are little soufflés, tongue-meltingly exquisite. Do not skip Mexican hot chocolate! Cocktails excellent, in the bar and lounge-side. Will deliver pitchers to your room. Room service is done very well, often with candles and special tweaks. Staff here loves to celebrate people. Agreeable Attributes: —No children under 16, this is an adult haven favored by romantic couples although I’ve gone solo since 2021. Earlier it was a splendid hideout with my partner. —Three beaches, one on either side (La Madera and Playa Ropa) and the third more distant, Playa Las Gatas (take a lancha from the town dock). —Two pools, clifftop infinity pool (heated), and a saltwater pool (unheated) at cliff base plus a large hot tub. —Plenty of outdoor lounging areas and decks, in shade and in sun. Several palapas, Bali beds, sun loungers. All with water in ice buckets, bar and food service at will, shifting sun umbrellas when needed. —Spa is delightful, great massages are even affordable. —Free mini bar. All this, AND affordable. I just booked six nights at the end of the month in a pool master suite for $3300. Includes breakfast. Caveats: —Remember the intro above citing “cantilevers down a cliff?” Lots of stairs, many stairs, beaucoup stairs. Also two elevators but, still, lots of stairs. —The main beach, Playa La Ropa, is a very short steep walk of five minutes down a cobblestone walkway. Tread carefully.

The service, food, and accommodations were outstanding, and we truly enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately, while we were enjoying the pool, someone went through my personal bag and my husband’s belongings, and $500 in cash was missing. We immediately brought it to management’s attention, but they denied any responsibility. I cannot say for certain who took the money, but the experience was extremely upsetting and left us feeling unsafe and disappointed. Oh and a speaker
