Casa De Sierra Azul

One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. Very well taken care of. Amazing architecture. Very good service. It's really worth its price. In the center you walk everywhere.

Hotel Casa de Sierra Azul is a beautifully restored colonial mansion in the heart of Oaxaca's city center. The location could not have been better for exploring Oaxaca and meeting up with our early morning tour operators. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard that stayed nice and cool during some of the warmer days of our stay. Our room, a superior king, was very large with ample storage. It also included a coffee maker and housekeeping every day, as well as a daily dose of Oaxacan chocolates. We did not eat any meals at the hotel and there are numerous great restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. Unlike some other reviews, we did have hot water, though water pressure was low and the hot water took a while to arrive. I suggest you turn on the hot water in the shower while you brush your teeth, and it will be ready when you are ready. Our room, set in the back, was private and quiet, considering there were a number of kids staying at the hotel. I don't think I would opt for a room off the courtyard unless you are an early riser.

The house, an old colonial style house, is unkempt and noisy as all rooms face the courtyard. This is both the breakfast room and the restaurant, even in winter in temperatures where you can only sit there in the morning and evening wearing a down jacket. Even the service leaves much to be desired, after our return from an excursion at 16:00 the room was not yet made. Unfortunately, overall, it is a great disappointment.
