Casa Caracol

The place is really nice, in a garden beside the lagoon, the houses all in curve and wood are charming, the landscape is beautiful. The welcome is very cold, the owner Christine Egger is not on the site, the employee is not friendly and pleasant. Only one palapa, quite small with 3 hammocks, for the 5 rooms, always busy. The garden is nice but not fitted out to seat or have a rest. The paddle board and other nautic equipment are billable. Te worst is the cheap breakfast : frozen food (quesadila con queso), few fruits, not generous.

Nice cabanas or huts 50 yards or meters from the water. You get breakfast each morning. Gaby was the owner (Sep 2016) and very pleasant. The huts or rooms had no WiFi but who cares when you have the lagoon all to yourself. If you NEED Internet you can seat by the owner's patio. Take advantage of Santos who can take you in the boat around the lagoon ... It is worth it and reasonable. He will take you around at your leisure. And you are not far from town, only 10 min by car.

The property is gorgeous and right on the lake, great gazebo, hammocks and places to relax. Breakfast is awesome and they made accommodations for my wife's diet choices. They rent kayaks and paddle boards at a reasonable rate. Concerning the hygiene issues that people have mentioned: This place has very open windows and for that reason geckos run around every where (this is common in this part of the jungle) and they will leave droppings here and there. Also they only have fans and not a modern or strong a/c system so there tends to be a musty smell (again you are in a lake/jungle area) because things are so open. I would recommend this place to everyone and would stay again in a heart beat. Even though it's a little ways from town the cabs that they call are quick and affordable. If you are the type of person that needs a/c and cannot stand a "lived in" environment then you might want to stay at a big chain hotel in Chetumal, otherwise this place in incredible!
