The Hacienda of Don Vargas is a little piece of heaven! We had booked 2 nights and decided to stay a 3rd one as it was so nice. The hacienda itself is so beautiful, the rooms are huge and kept in an original style. Super clean, with everything you need. Don Jose Vargas is the nicest host possible, explaining you everything about the region, the house, activities... (speaks spanish though). We loved everything about this stay. Do not hesitate to book there.

Hacienda is very peaceful, original and nostalgically beautiful. Mr. Vargas is an unbelievably great host. We had problem with rental car, and Mr Vargas very actively helped us , he looked into various alternatives, organized and provided effective options to expedite resolution of our car issues while still keeping all things peaceful and enjoyable for us. Our room (“Mr Frog” room due to a large painting with a tropical frog seating on exotic flower) was very large, very well maintained and tastefully finished with wooden ceiling beams and stone walls. Glass doors on opposite walls of the room allowed for a pleasant gentle breeze. AC worked perfectly when we needed it. The whole property is large and has big trees and blooming bushes. Nice and sweet scent was coming from citrus orchard. It was such as pleasure just to linger around either on a rocking chair outside the room, or in swimming pool, or just strolling in garden to see horses and volliere with parrots and iguana sleeping on tree branches. Hacienda has a rabbit farm. They are all snow white, of all sizes and ages from 1 day to several months and more and absolutely totally cute. Nevertheless their cuteness did not prevent us from having dinner with all kinds of rabbit-based dishes including wonderful rabbit liver pate and excellent rabbit “pibil”. We had 2 dinners and did not run out of variety of rabbit dishes. Where else would you ever eat rabbits except in a few restaurants in Europe? Besides the rabbit meat there are plenty of other choices on a menu. We particularly liked some melted cheese-based dish. Every morning after good breakfast with omelets, cakes and coffee we could not leave veranda for a long time and kept seating there slowly failing into sleeping beauty dreams and immersing ourselves into stillness of peace and tranquility. Location is very good, paved road leads to hacienda and within 30-40 min drive there are interesting sites to visit including Mayapan archaeological site, Cenote Cozuma and Merida.

After a single night in Cancun, we were ready to travel and experience "real" Mexico. And what better place to do it than to stay at a hacienda. Two in our party (one of whom is Mexican) had stayed here before and recommended it. Our host,Señor Vargas, was very helpful and accommodating. We had a choice of rooms and selected one on the first floor. It was spacious and comfortable. The room walls were the original stone which really added to the authenticity of the place. We dined twice at the hacienda's restaurant. Although they have an interior dining room, the weather was perfect for us to dine on the patio. Food was enjoyable. On the grounds of the hacienda, you'll see line trees, coconut trees, and other 'fruit' trees (not sure what the fruit was). As to whether I would return-the answer is a resounding YES.
