Hotel Chichen Itza

We arrived and were told that there was “no bar and no restaurant” as they were “closed for renovations”. There was no purified water to access in any lobby and we were not offered even a bottle of water. No coffeemaker, just directions to the minimart next door. While the staff were polite, it was very disappointing that they made NO ACCOMMODATION for the change in their situation. We also heard from someone familiar with the area that the restaurants at this hotel and the Hotel Mayaland had “been sold”. The hotel is clean. Beds uncomfortable. A big disappointment.

This felt like a somewhat mid-market, old, tired motel...The room was clean and had most of what we needed, but the electrics were completely shot (none of the sockets worked and in fact when I tried plugging something in to one of them it flashed and popped...so we gave up!) The outside areas around the pool were nice, but breakfast was served in and outdoor tabled area right by the road, which was bizarre..

I rarely write reviews but had read generally positively of this hotel before booking it and wish to provide balance for future folks considering staying here. Our room was dirty - stains on the sheets and bed cover, strong mildew smell on the curtains. The key card didn’t work and we had to walk back to front desk for help, given with a snarl. No hand towels or wash clothes and only two towels both badly frayed. Service at breakfast was appalling. Wifi was very weak. But the worst was the noise! We faced the main highway through town and the roar of trucks, music and motorcycles was awful. Add to it the noisy air conditioner and sleep would have been a miracle. If you have to stay here bring white noise and ear plugs (we had both both but not nearly enough), patience, and high tolerance for dirt and poor service.
