Our travel agent had booked us here for 3 nights (because initially all other hotels were apparently full), but after we saw the place we were disappointed with the very basic standard and were lucky to find an other hotel. The Vesali hotel has nice bungalows and a cosy open air restaurant but the rooms and facilities are very simple and basic and the hotel definitely needs renovation of the bungalows and general facilities. The location is nice, the staff is extremely friendly and we felt sorry for the staff that we instantly decided that these facilities were too basic and would try to move to another hotel (which we luckily found). The other hotels were full and Vesali had no customers other than us
Our recommendation to management is to look into upgrading/refurbishing the rooms with better beds, furniture, better bathroom, bigger tv (the current tv is closer to the size of a computer desktop screen) with more channels (this tv has only 3 channels of which 1 English station). And there is no WiFi. Nowhere, not even in the lobby. (All other hotels in Mrauk U apparently have WiFi). Make it more up to date, do something about the walls, a bit of paint does wonders. The hotel has nice cottages and by upgrading them and installing better tv and WiFi this could be a nice resort which could compete with the other hotels and attract a lot of customers.
For the short time we have been there the staff however was exceptionally kind and trying to work hard to make the best of the hotel. (And spoke very good English!)

Vesalius Resort was a nice little jewel in Mrauk U. We loved our little room with the large shower and personal front porch. The employees were very friendly and the breakfast was just right. Nyi Nyi was very attentive to his customers wants and needs. I was a bit upset that they did not have the internet, but now I’m glad they didn’t. It really allows me to relax and unwind after a full day of exploring.

The Vesalli Resort Hotel is a resort in name only. Perhaps 20 years ago it was considered a resort but not by today’s standards. The place is not so much worn out, but just plain tired. The room is ‘simple’ I would have expected the room to be twenty dollars less and would have been in most cities. Mrauk U has a major hotel problem. Either the rooms are very basic or very expensive. There doesn’t seem to be any middle ground.
The room was clean. There was an a/c unit in the room, but it was located in the window and covered with the curtains if you wanted and privacy, so basically unusable at night. There was an oscillating fan that worked as hard as it could, but it could only do so much. If you slept out from under the netting, you be came a bug buffet. If you slept with in the netting the fan only sort of cooled you.
The room suffered from from lack of electrical outlets, like almost every place in Myanmar. If you wanted to recharge your laptop and phone, you had to go a huntin’ outlets, sometimes deciding between light and recharge. Wi-Fi is not available. If you have a Telenor SIM card in your phone, good luck here. I failed, but had reception in other locations within the town. Telenor is spotty outside the big cities.
Breakfast is included with the price of the room, a large dish of rice, eggs, toast and coffee.
I only stayed one night before moving on to the very expensive other option in town. Fortunately my budget allowed that, if you budget is a little tighter, expect the basics at a slightly inflated price.
