We stayed in Hotel Manaslu for 3 nights. The hotel's exterior is very impressive. It captures the essence of Nepali architecture and the added elements only enhance the experience. It wouldn't be wrong to say, that if you're lucky to stay at this hotel, you have pretty much seen what Kathmandu and it's Durbar Squares have to offer. The hotel is spread over a wide land parcel, allowing the architect to leave big open spaces. On entering this hotel, I was struck by the fact that there is one jewellery store inside, which we never got to see the "Open" sign. The reception and covered lobby are a few more feet inside. There's a small library too. Two big courtyards greet you on entering. The first one has old time cane furniture, and there is a kitchen serving you food and drinks. Ornate woodwork is on display everywhere, which left me wondering how many actually appreciate this level of architecture? Moving on, inside there are two restaurants. The first one, the Manaslu restaurant, again exudes old world design and architecture. There are many tables to choose from. It would be wonderful to see refreshed table linen and new upholstery. Almost all the sofas and seats have worn out and uninviting seating. Service is reasonably good, and the food is also about 3.5/5 stars. The lack of footfalls at this hotel shows in it's silence and occupancy levels. Hotel Manaslu is a lovely jewel in the crown, but it's business has been eroded by the presence of 5 star hotels that flank it. Although we were quite pleased with the overall stay, I would like to highlight a few points here: 1. There are two wings in the hotel. The old wing, where we stayed is quiet, and the entry lies in a dark patch. There are NO LIFTS in either wing. 2. The bathroom offers less amenities, so do bring your own toiletries. 3. The door keys are also old fashioned ones, and you get only a single key to lock your room door from inside. The management staff (security, floor manager, housekeeping and restaurant staff) are kind and helpful. It is because of their support that this hotel is still up and running. I have no clue who the owners are, but if they are reading this review, my suggestion to them would be to revamp and refresh elements that have aged. No one would cherish the thought of sitting on grubby sofas and musty smelling and dated table linen. This hotel is like a beautiful bride, who has aged but refused to adapt to the times.

A wonderful experience. Surrounded by so much natural beauty and snow landscapes, it's a place to stay with long lasting memories. The owner is super friendly. Had the most delicious Nepali dinner here, the famous Dal Bhat. See you again next year, thanks!
