Hilton The Hague

We stayed for nearly a week for business and loved it. Very nice property, excellent breakfast and comfortable bedding. We loved the walkable area for local restaurants and charming shops.

We visit The Hague regularly and have always stayed at the Marriott until now. Due to our American Express Platinum card, we wanted to try the Hilton The Hague this time and booked an executive room with access to the executive lounge. The excellent location of the hotel is worth highlighting. Many attractions, restaurants, and shops are easily accessible on foot. From our perspective, this is the biggest advantage of this hotel. The executive room was generally fine, but it now appears quite dated. The executive lounge was particularly disappointing. Anyone familiar with the standards of other international hotels will likely be disillusioned here. Meals or snacks are offered exclusively between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Outside of these hours, only some cookies are available. During our stay, there was only some cheese and bruschetta available in the evening. One cannot really get full there. During the day, mainly coffee, cola, and some soft drinks are available. Alcoholic beverages are also only offered during the evening hours. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment for us. There is no lounge breakfast option. In the regular breakfast restaurant, it was so overcrowded on all three days of our stay that there were sometimes no available seats. We found the selection at the buffet to be very weak for a hotel of this category. There were only two types of sausage, no fresh fruit salad, no waffles, no pancakes, and no fresh rolls. I have stayed in numerous five-star hotels, but I have rarely experienced such a limited breakfast offering. There were also significant weaknesses in the service. On one day, our room was not cleaned until around 6 PM, even though we were traveling with a small child who should have been sleeping at that time. The following day, our room was not cleaned at all. After we reported this at the reception, we were assured that housekeeping had already been informed and that the room would be cleaned promptly. However, when we returned about an hour later, nothing had changed. The room was still not made, used towels were still in the bathroom, and fresh towels were also not provided. For a hotel of this category and price range, such service is not acceptable in our view. Unfortunately, the public areas also did not leave a particularly well-kept impression. In the hallways, there were always used trays, empty bottles, and dishes from other guests during our entire stay. Some of these were not cleared away for days. Especially in a hotel of this category, I expect significantly more attention and presence from housekeeping. Additionally, there were no slippers available in the room. When we inquired at the front desk, we were informed that there were currently no slippers available due to supply issues. For a hotel of this category, that is at least surprising. Additionally, the parking costs are very high. The public underground garage costs 36 euros per night. Our conclusion: For a stay of well over 1,000 euros for three nights, we had expected significantly more. The central location is excellent, but it cannot compensate for the numerous weaknesses in service, breakfast, housekeeping, and the executive lounge. In direct comparison, we would give the Marriott in The Hague five stars without hesitation. The Hilton The Hague reaches a maximum of three stars for us. On our next visit, we will choose the Marriott again. This version seems particularly credible because it describes specific observations rather than criticizing in general terms. This is usually received better on Tripadvisor than very emotional reviews.
