St James Bed & Breakfast

This is, absolutely, the finest B&B we’ve stayed in. Margaret and Paul are incredible hosts, the B&B is amazing, the breakfast incredible, and the attention to detail is unsurpassed. From our welcoming glass of wine and enthusiastic greeting from the humans AND the resident puppies (especially Gracie), to the chocolates and slices, and fresh fruit in our rooms (we were with another couple), to the very comfortable beds, to the lounges (plural) and outdoor areas (plural) and the pool and pool house...we didn’t want to leave. The breakfast kept us full until dinner — everything was yummy! We’ll find a reason to return to ChCh just so we can stay again. Thanks again, Margaret and Paul!

We stayed for one night at the end of our stay in New Zealand. This is the best Bed and Breakfast I have ever stayed at - it’s more like an upmarket hotel. Our room, which was clean, spacious and comfortable, was on the ground floor and opened out onto a little patio overlooking the beautiful gardens. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of food and there was also a cooked option if we had wanted it. The airport is only about 8 km away and very easy to get to. Highly recommended.

We stayed several nights in November. Margaret and Paul are warm, gracious hosts who offered great travel tips and even searched local bookshops for a used book we were after while we were out having fun. The breakfasts were simply wonderful, with a full choice of continental items as well as eggs and breakfast meats cooked to order. Our room was large and spotlessly clean; it had a nicely appointed bathroom, in-room coffee and tea, and a private patio opening onto a stunning garden. The St. James is located in a leafy suburb convenient to the airport and to restaurants. We look forward to staying there again.
