Maybe we caught this motel on a bad day but.......We stayed one night (had booked two). Left as early as possible the next day. The very nice host said that they were short of staff and the owner was away. It showed, our room - opposite the guest laundry - was dirty, stained, grubby and shabby. The front was unfinished concrete with household debris piled up outside the back of the room. The rug and carpet were stained as was our duvet cover. I understand that Kaikoura is very booked out because of the whale-watching, but i cannot understand the great reviews given to this place on Booking.com etc. It really deserved a refund and a damn good clean. The photos are misleading to say the least. Would give no stars if i could.

Unit backed onto a lovely rural outlook. Everything was new in this 2 bedroom unit. The kitchen was fully equipped with new utensils and appliances, a full sized fridge, oven and induction cooktop. The bathroom was beautiful. Both bedrooms had lovely new bedding. Sean was attentive and helpful, pointing out places of interest and local shops. Could not rate our stay highly enough.

Our room was well appointed and we had everything we needed for a great stay! Sean and team were awesome hosts. If you are a light sleeper it might pay to bring earbuds as the A/C and water noise between rooms was a bit disruptive
