Picton Beachcomber Inn

We stayed here for the water views and restaurant. What a disappointment. Third floor king room. The room was dirty, sticky marks on the bedside table glass tops. We had to clean the bath / shower before we could use it dark hair and black gunge out of the spa bath jets. The room was just poorly cleaned. The Restaurant. Great views out over the marina, The young lady that seated us at the start was very pleasant and polite. Our entrees were spectacular Pulled pork Arancini balls and tempura cauliflower bites. My main Authentic Nepalese Goat curry arrived cold and it took a little while to get someone to take it back ( my wife had almost finished ). The new server was abrupt and unfriendly blaming an out of order heat lamp. When my meal finally arrived it was hot and nice for a very mild Curry apart from the raw flatbread. The Apple crumble would have been good if the base was cooked. When paying we overheard about a special on my meal and asked for it as No offer or apology for my cold meal, which didn't go down well. This restaurant has amazing potential. The restaurant isn't open for breakfast away from peak season

Excellent location in the centre of Picton overlooking the harbour and ferry. However, the hotel is very dated. All the furniture in the bedroom required updating. The bathroom was an average size but the shower was over a very large corner bath, with a shower curtain, so quite tricky to get in and out. The extractor fan was so noisy we could not have it on for very long and the lighting in the bathroom was not fit for purpose. We had a small balcony with two chairs and a table which are joined together so you can't move them. There is no privacy on the balcony. There was a lot of road noise and we were woken up in the early hours when a group of motorcyclists arrived at the hotel. The restaurant was not open for breakfast when we were there. We did have a fridge and kettle so we were able to make a drink. The room was very clean and towels were changed on a daily basis. There is only a short walk into the centre of town and we would recommend the Sea Breeze Cafe for breakfast/brunch. Excellent coffee and service. Oxleys Restaurant was also very good.
