Edgewater Hotel

We had a wonderful stay at Edgewater Hotel. I was really impressed with the room — the lakefront views were absolutely amazing and made our stay feel very special. The front desk and restaurant staff were excellent — friendly, helpful and attentive throughout our stay. We were also celebrating a birthday, and I was so touched to find a lovely card and chocolates waiting for us in the room. It was such a thoughtful gesture and really added a personal touch to our stay. The hotel’s location right on Lake Wānaka is beautiful and makes it a lovely, relaxing place to stay. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and would happily recommend Edgewater Hotel to anyone visiting Wānaka. The stunning lake views and thoughtful hospitality were definitely the highlights of our stay!

Good collection of food and drink, well priced, good ambience at lake, warm welcoming staff, great service. Strongly recommend.

Stayed here one night during our road trip Location: (4.5/5) The location is the hotel's crown jewel. If you're lucky enough to secure a lake-view room, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking – mornings feel like stepping into a fairytale. That said, the hotel is about 2km from Wanaka town centre – roughly a 30-minute walk along the lake. The walk itself is pleasant and scenic, following the lakeshore and passing the iconic Wanaka Tree along the way. It's also worth noting that the hotel has its own 'lonely tree' on the property, which some guests find even more photogenic than the famous one – just don't confuse the two! Twilight walks along the lake are highly recommended – the light is magical and the photo opportunities are endless. The hotel grounds are stunning as well – expansive green lawns leading down to the lake. The setting is peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Room: (4.5/5) The hotel has been undergoing phased refurbishments. We booked the renovated Premium Room with modern fixtures, high-quality fittings, spacious layouts, and comfortable bedding. Heating is effective, and the shower has plenty of hot water with good pressure. Room assignment is random, so you may not know which you'll get until check-in. If you're allocated a second-floor room, be aware that top-story rooms are accessible only by stairs – the stairways are narrow, so guests with mobility issues or elderly travellers should request a ground-floor room in advance. Dining: (4/5) The on-site restaurant offers some hearty dishes that are perfect for a cold winter night. We had an early dinner with booking through the First Table, and get a 50% off the food bill (with the requirement that each person orders a drink). We didn't have breakfast in the restaurant though. Instead, we took a morning walk to the town to explore local cafe and enjoy the stunning lake view. Service: (4.5/5) Warm and welcoming. Nothing to complain. Overall: 4.5/5 Edgewater Hotel offers one of the best lakeside settings in Wanaka – the views, the grounds, and the proximity to the Wanaka Tree are genuinely special. Would I stay again? Yes. Though knowing the room assignment is random, I just hope I could get a lakeview room next time as well.
