Du Pont Motel

I stayed at the Dupont Executive Motel for one night and had a very disappointing experience. On arrival, I was allocated a unit that did not match the accommodation shown on the website. Instead of the advertised motel block, the room was located in a low‑lying adjacent building. Upon entering, there was a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke and mould. The refrigerator was not working and emitted a foul odour, the television did not function, and several electrical power points were damaged with exposed wiring, which raised safety concerns. The kitchen floor was extremely dirty and appeared to be covered in construction debris. More concerning was the presence of a razor blade left on the floor, along with long construction screws protruding from the walls. This made the room feel unsafe and not suitable for guests. After raising these issues with reception, I was moved to a neighbouring unit. While this second room was cleaner and the television and fridge were working, there was still a strong lingering smell of cigarette smoke. Given it was only a one‑night stay, I reluctantly accepted the room. Throughout the evening there was frequent foot traffic in and out of nearby rooms, which made the environment feel uncomfortable. Later that night, someone attempted to open my door around 1:00 a.m. The door was locked and no entry was gained, but the incident was unsettling. Overall, the condition of the rooms, cleanliness issues, safety hazards, and general atmosphere made this a very unpleasant stay. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this accommodation and would strongly encourage prospective guests to consider alternative options.

Would not recommend the service and attitude of the staff at all. Deeply disappointed in this accommodation would not recommend that people use it unless they are desperate for accommodation. DO NOT STAY HERE IS THE BEST TIP EVER FOR THIS ESTABLISHMENT

I was booked in for the $139 executive suite, standard studio room. I was put in room 11. Dust, ants, mould on the bathroom door which was not fit for purpose - it was more like a pantry cupboard door. Bathroom sink beside the bed. Tv wouldn’t work, microwave didn’t work either as the cables were broken and wiring exposed. Shower plug blocked so I was basically having a bath by the time I finished showering. Strange service - Very unhelpful when I asked to upgrade my room at my own expense (I was on a work trip). The other people on my business course were booked in for the $159 suites which, for the minimal price difference, was vastly better. It doesn’t make much sense to me how they can charge what they did for the shoebox I was in. Bushes were overgrown outside my window so I couldn’t open my small windows unless I wanted bugs for Africa in my room. I have never stayed in such a bad motel in New Zealand.
