This is a very nice wilderness lodge. The rooms were clean and comfortable (exceptions noted below) and the food was good. The onsite laundry and umbrellas were very helpful. Our issues with the lodge were two-fold, one of which really had nothing to do with the lodge. The first is that it rained throughout the time we were there. Yes, it is in a rain forest and of course we had to expect rain. But most of the activities were cancelled while we were there because of the rain and we really wasted a couple of days of our vacation. If I were to return to NZ I would not return to this area again (I know, this is not the hotel's fault, but it is something to consider if you are traveling to this very rainy part of NZ). The other issue we had is with sand flies and heating problems in our room. We arrived on a cold day to an open, screened window that nevertheless let sand flies in the room and we were bitten at night during our sleep. The room was cold and it was hard to get the heater working. The staff were lovely and I would have liked to give it 5 stars, but this was not one of our favorite stops among the 10 places we stayed in NZ.

My wife and I enjoyed two nights at the Wilderness Lodge with our hiking group. It is located in a beautiful setting along a river and adjacent to Lake Moeraki. The guestrooms are plain but clean and comfortable. The main lodge is very cozy and a comfortable place to have drinks and mingle with other guests, with a great view of the river. The Lodge makes a couple of washing machines and dryers available to guests at no charge. The food is very good and the staff goes above and beyond to be of service. Kayaking on the lake is great fun and the hike to Munro Beach at the Tasman Sea is glorious. A great and comfortable place to relax and enjoy the wilderness,

This place is heaven. We stayed for 2 nights in a river view room.
The setting is stunning and very quiet and relaxing. The staff are all excellent and enthusiastic. We enjoyed the complimetary quided walks through the ancient rainforest. We also took a kayak on the the lake, very calm and peaceful.
A beautiful walk through the rainforest out to the Tasman sea is from the grounds of the hotel. Three course dinner and breakfast were superb. All areas were very clean too. Highly recommend a stay here, opt for a river view room if you can.
