Stayed here in May 26. It was dated and needs a revamp. Only one shower & toilet for powered sites so if it was busy you’d be battling to use the facilities. Showers only had tiled floors but needs a mat to stand on so that you don’t get your pants/pj’s wet when trying to get dressed. Clothes hooks were coming off the wall or missing. Same price as other motorcamps so not good value. Close to the beach but beach not suitable for swimming. location was close to Hokitika so easy to get into town. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We were in #7, a studio which was a nice size with a small couch, table for eating and a kitchenette. There are 23 cabins as well as a number of hookups for campers. The landline did not work, there was no wifi and the heat did not work. The location is near the beach so we went to watch some amazing sunsets. The Glow Worm Dell is right across the road - you walk into the forest for 5 minutes at night and the glow worms are everywhere in the tree. Very spiritual.

Hokitika was our favourite destination during our tour of the South Island and Shining Star played no small part. The complex is right next to the stunning beach and the King beachfront chalet that we spent 2 nights in was superb. A lovely chalet-style room with high beams, spacious, clean and a very handy deck at the front which we made good use of, especially star-gazing at night. Impressively powerful shower in the bathroom and the heated towel rail was a pleasant surprise. And we were able to park our car directly next to the chalet, which was useful. The grounds are well laid out and the various animals (rabbits, alpacas) were fun to watch! An added bonus is the glow worm dell located directly opposite Shining Star, which was very easy to walk to in the evening. Our only regret is that our itinerary allowed us to spend only 2 nights in Hokitika. If we return, we will definitely stay at Shining Stars for longer!
