El Sauce Inn

I feel like the Hotel El Sauce Inn deserves a bit of a break. A number of the reviews complain about the cleanliness and general atmosphere of the hotel - but to be honest, it is not meant to be a high end luxury resort. It is a simple hotel in the center of Tarapoto for business travel or staging before heading off. If you're looking for a jungle resort - there are plenty of propetries within a few kilometers of the city of Tarapoto. I stayed at the hotel while in Tarapoto for business with a local health care organization. My colleague and I had rooms on the second floor; and although, as previously stated, the hotel is not luxurious - the rooms were very clean, the air conditioners worked perfectly well, and the water was hot (not that you want a hot shower in the high jungle). The convenience of the location - only a half block off the Plaza de Armas - makes the hotel great for business in the area and easy access to the best restaurants in the city of Tarapoto. In addition, it is only a 15-minute mototaxi ride to the airport. Honestly, the Hotel El Sauce Inn is everything you need for a quick trip into the city - and the cost of the rooms just can't be beat.

I went there to enjoy my holiday week and my kids loved it, they a lot of room to play, swim and go around the lake, Dinner was excelent everyone loved it, specially the typical of Tarapoto. we will defenitely go back.

I would not recommend this hotel for the following reasons. The hotel shuttle was not at the airport to pick me up, as I had requested. The single room I booked was very, very small, and did not have a desk. Necessary for a business traveler. There is also no outside area, or terrace. The window in my room overlooked the inside of the hotel, right above the check in desk. I don't mind street noise, but listening to every conversation in the lobby pisses me off. In addition, I didn't find the staff very helpful. However, the price is the real problem. I recently stayed in Tarapoto at a hotel for half the price, and in retrospect was quite happy with the accommodations. I will not be back here. My mistake, should have stayed with what I knew.
