We recently stayed at Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos Poro Point for a family birthday celebration, and while there were some memorable moments, the overall experience was mixed.
The Good
The property itself is beautiful. The resort feels private and exclusive since it is located within a gated area. Finding the resort was easy using Waze, and the Mediterranean-inspired architecture gives it a unique character compared to other local resorts.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed with cold towels and welcome drinks, which was a nice touch after a long drive from Manila. The staff at check-in were courteous and the room was spacious and comfortable.
The swimming pool area was enjoyable, especially for families with children. Our kids spent a lot of time swimming and playing, and we appreciated the open spaces around the resort.
The Not-So-Good
Unfortunately, several issues affected our stay.
1. Bathroom flooding
Shortly after arriving, one of our family members took a shower and the bathroom flooded, soaking some towels and clothing. Housekeeping responded and fixed the issue, but it was disappointing to encounter this immediately upon check-in.
2. Limited dining options
The lobby restaurant only offered buffet service during our stay. Since not everyone in our family enjoys buffets, we looked for an à la carte alternative and ended up at the beachfront restaurant.
The menu was extremely limited, consisting mostly of barbecue, sisig, and fried chicken. Food preparation took approximately 40 minutes, which felt excessive when traveling with hungry family members. Later that night, one of our children woke up hungry, but all resort kitchens were already closed, forcing us to order food through Grab.
3. Internet connectivity
As someone who occasionally needs to work while traveling, the internet speed was frustratingly slow. We were averaging around 1.5 Mbps, which made even basic work tasks challenging.
4. Accessibility
Our room was located on the third floor, but there was no elevator. Carrying luggage and repeatedly going up and down the stairs became tiring, especially for older guests or families carrying supplies.
Biggest Disappointment
The most frustrating part of our stay happened during checkout.
The resort claimed that one bathrobe was missing from our room. This delayed our departure by approximately one hour while the matter was being investigated. We ultimately paid ₱2,500 so we could leave and begin our long drive home. We have since reported the issue and are awaiting a response from management.
This experience left a very negative final impression, especially after already dealing with several inconveniences during the stay.
Final Thoughts
Thunderbird Poro Point has a beautiful location, attractive facilities, and family-friendly amenities. The resort has potential to provide a wonderful vacation experience. However, operational issues such as maintenance concerns, limited dining choices, slow internet, and our unresolved checkout dispute prevented us from fully enjoying our stay.
We created wonderful family memories during the trip, but those memories came primarily from being with family rather than from the resort experience itself.
I hope management takes guest feedback seriously and addresses these issues, particularly the checkout dispute process and dining options.

This was one night during a multi week trip around the Philippines and my wife suggested since she'd stayed previously. What a let down! On arrival staff was friendly and served up cold lemonade which was very refreshing. Things fell off the table after that. The room had a nice view of the ocean but the room had a mold problem that was painted over. But with mold, the smell does not go away just because you cant see it. I'm sure maintenance is aware of the issue. I didn't complain or ask for another room just because it was only night. A walk around the grounds makes it obvious there is a lot of deferred maintenance with dead plants, trees, and shrubs. The palm tees on the waters edge are gone, railings suffer rust and rot. Brunch at Olives was fine, no complaints, but could an espresso machine. Coffee is boring. Overall, I'd avoid for other nearby resorts that are worth the money.
