Aparthotel Vila Luz

We just left Vila Luz this morning in an emergency, after 2 hours sleep, and shortening our stay by 3 nights. The reason: our Irish setter dog was deliberately attacked by the gardener with his hedge trimmer that he pointed at her to scare her as she barked, herself scared by the craft, and looking at our wife and I smiling coldly (he showed no fear or destabilization). My wife can’t forget this smiling face of cruelty, she has been shocked ever since. Seriously injured in the lip and shoulder in multiple places, we drove blood from his wounds into the car, a real scene of horror, into the emergency vet’s office. The vet at Luz’s clinic did a magnificent job of operating on her under anesthesia with a dozen stitches on her lip and shoulder, and she should be able to cope after several weeks with a heavy antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. Why would you think so? What we can’t understand about my wife and I is how one can be so deliberately cruel on the one hand, and on the other hand how one can be so inhumane and unprofessional that neither the gardeners nor the hotel owner intervened to stop this criminal act, while my wife screamed STOP, did not rescue us or support us to go to the emergency room, or even apologized, simply finding that the gardener “had done a wrong thing but is a usually friendly person.” The gardener and the owner returned home quietly without even waiting for us or asking for news. I specify that so far we had several excellent stays on all points, with a team at the reception, in the kitchen and in the room, which is high level, attentive, everyone knowing our dog, her kindness, and caressing her at the slightest opportunity. The 2 people usually at the reception were after the fact very touched by the scene and were the only ones to show compassion and humanity. In the hurry we have prioritized care and return to France, without filing a complaint, but we will think about it once the vitality has passed.

Top Class indeed It was a very pleasant surprise to visit Vila Luz for the fist time in many years.. This is now a top rate Apartment Hotel, full of all modern amenities, shower wet room, fully equipped kitchen etc. Added to this is a daily room service and excellent self service breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice etc. We were greeted by the Manager, Jaio Andre (I hope I spelt that correctly), who explained everything in excellent English, and was always available if needed. We have stayed at plenty of 5 star hotels, and this is included in that list for sure. Weather in September- not a cloud in the sky for 10 day, simply beautiful! We most definitely will be returning next year for sure.

Set among stunning private villas this small apart-hotel is perfect for a relaxing couple holiday. The rooms are spacious apartments with bedroom, kitchen/diner and a bathroom. Ours had a balcony that led out to the pool area. The rooms are air conditioned. The apartment is cleaned diligently every day. The pool and gardens are beautiful maintained. Breakfast is a relaxed hot & cold buffet style. Snacks and light meals are available from the bar. The staff are relaxed, friendly and very helpful when needed, otherwise invisible. We’ve been here twice now in September and chilled. Great value if you’re not craving excitement.
