Marina Rio

I loved everything about this hotel! Where to begin ... It's a short walk to the Lagos town center, to the marina where you can book any kind of boat tour, and to a couple of beautiful beaches nearby. Rita at the front desk was always so helpful and kind! Spend the extra $ to get the marina view balcony. They had a great coffee machine with delicious coffee in the room, so we loved having our morning coffee outside on the balcony. You could enjoy an evening wine there. Totally worth the extra $. I didn't think it was noisy at all either, as some reviewers have said. I use a sound sleep machine, no noise for us very nice night's sleep. Beds are comfortable. Air conditioning works great, you can have your room downright cold if you really want it that way. Nice spacious bathroom. The room is bright, with a great, thoughtful layout. There are lots of spaces and shelves to store and organize your things, so we felt right at home. Outside on the balcony there's a drying rack for your swimsuits, laundry. Very nice terrace and small pool. The decor is bright and modern. I feel like they really thought of everything at this hotel and I'd book another room in a heartbeat. Thank you so much Marina Rio for an amazing stay!

Excellent, immaculate, comfy hotel. Lagos is getting busy and pricey, so this represents good value for what you are getting. The receptionists were all extremely helpful and welcoming with all the information you could need. There is parking right next to the hotel for 5 Euros a day, so you can dump the car and explore Lagos on foot as its only 7 or 8 minutes walk and you are right in the old town. There are two roof terraces, one with a pool and one without. The wind had got up so we stuck to the more sheltered terrace without the pool. Don't expect a pool to stretch out in, its just for cooling off.

I don’t normally leave reviews but I feel I must in this case. I woke up in the night to discover an infestation of ants all over my toiletries and earrings. When I reported this to the night porter he blamed an empty salad box in my bin - though there is no sign saying not to do this. And you should be able to eat food in a hotel room without worrying about ants. He sprayed an insect repellent and closed the balcony door, so that I’d be trapped breathing in and worrying about whatever spray he had used all night long. I didn’t sleep one wink! Video evidence taken. And I had paid for a clean hotel room!! The next morning the receptionist laughed at my complaint and said although there were other rooms available for me to move to, that they wouldn’t move me as they wanted to “treat the problem”. I emailed and spoke to the manager and was given the response in writing that “ants do not pose a health risk” and “there was no need to disinfect your things” (ants do in fact carry bacteria) She was argumentative and so I had little choice but to accept what she’d offered. After taking no responsibility, or even offering an apology, they resolved to give me a free breakfast worth 12 euros. I understand that an ant infestation could happen anywhere, but the hotels poor response was baffling to me - it’s meant to be a 4 star hotel! Unbelievable. Be warned, don’t book this hotel because if anything goes wrong you are on your own! PLEASE read the other 1 or 2 star reviews, I’m not the only one who experienced ants or poor service! Although Marina Rio is a nice building, it is ruined by poor management, and you only need to look at this hotel’s responses to guests on tripadvisor to the bad reviews - They never apologise and they always blame the customer!
