Onezhskiy Zamok

It was very nice with a lovely view. There were lots of excursions to the island Kiji on hydrofoils. Could have better food though. Located right on lake onega.The service was very good and I would come back.

The name translates from Russian as a "Lake Castle", and it is indeed a modern waterfront castle, with towers, nice thick walls, and spiral staircases. Very nice architecture, waterfront property, located on a historical embankment, yet less than 10 years old! Rooms are king size, some have a nice patio, nice lake views, and you can walk to the water on the property. The food in the restaurant is Russian food, very good (ever tried?), the sauna is hot, the pool is cool (you have to book them though). Staff is very polite and courteous, highly trained, I personally complimented them for high level of service. Stay there, folks. I came all the way from California, and very, very satisfied. That is the best hotel in Petrozavodsk.

Caught the train from Ladozhsky Station, St Petersburg to Petrozavodsk an express that was actually better than I expected only taking just over 4 hours. I stayed on the 4th floor. Vreated by an emglish speaking receptionist. The room well presented but fridge too small you need to buy coffee and tea as well as milk. This is about a 15 minute walk into town. Only real problem is people smoke out side on the balconies and you need to close your windows. The wifi was a little slow but acceptable for what i needed. There is a television but no English stations so the internet is good for watching youtube. This time of the year the sun when its out beats on that side of the room making it a little hot so using the fan tends to circulate the air a little better. I suggest the 2nd floor overlooking the lake is the better position. The cleaners talk about you in russian and thats funny not that I cared but they need to clean the room more often. Beakfast was good and its a typical tea coffee, eggs cold salads hot omelet type dish saisage mixed potato pumpkin and veggies. Over all not a bad stay. The taxi from Petrozavodsk station to onega castle cost about 200 rubles the taxi from St Petersburg airport to the train station 1500 -2000 rubles if you meter taxi about 4300 rubles.
