stayed at this hotel recently and had a very disturbing experience. While I was sleeping, someone attempted to break into my room through the sliding door. This was not just uncomfortable — it was frightening. To make matters worse, the sliding door had no lock. I had to wedge a chair behind the door.
What made the situation worse was the response from the staff. There was no sense of urgency, no apology, and no attempt to reassure me. I requested to speak to a manager and someone who could communicate clearly in English, but my concerns were not taken seriously. Safety should be the absolute minimum standard for any hotel, and here it was completely ignored.
I no longer felt safe staying in my room after that incident.
I do not recommend this hotel, especially for solo travelers or anyone who values security and professional customer service.

You know those pictures of the ruins of the once opulent residence of Mobutu Sese Seko at Gbadolite and the sadness it evokes? Thats how i felt at the Onomo. The staff who were supposed to be bilingual weren’t too helpful, the first room i was allocated smelled like it was an extension of a sewer. It must have been once grand and opulent but like Gbadolite had fallen unto hard times. But the beer was cold.

There is no compelling reason to stay at Onomo Dakar - the location, the room, the service - nothing is compelling. If you don't have a car, there are no restaurants or other major amenities within walking distance. There are no major attractions within walking distance. The room itself is fine for a 3 star hotel. Not great but fine. The hotel is tired - everything is on the shabby side.
