Whoever designed the bedrooms in the Hotel Jezero knew what they were doing. The shape, size and proportions of the modern version of this old-established hotel on the banks of the sublimely tranquil Lake Bohinj are all as they should be. Big windows that open onto a small balcony, a large flat writing desk/table, ample cupboard space, armchairs, reading lights, room safe, good bathroom – all the boxes ticked. The Jezero also scores because of its position, of course, just across the road from the lake itself. And breakfast in the light airy conservatory is an excellent way to start the day. Best place in town.

This hotel was average. Not trying to nitpick but I do want to provide reasoning for a mixed review. Starting with the best part, the location. You are 2 minutes from the shore of Lake Bohinj which is stunning and less crowded than the nearby Lake Bled. The views of the mountains and lake are stunning. There are restaurants, trails, and a beach very close by.
The room was a decent size, clean, and had comfortable beds. The balcony was large. There was an odd chemical/fuel smell at night in our room. We overheard another guest complain about this so it was not only our room. However the screened window opened wide so we had some fresh air.
Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:00 and was fine. There was a good selection of fruit. The local apple juice was tasty. The coffee was not tasty. Multiple staff stand to watch over the buffet and dining area to make sure you do not take anything out of the restaurant, which to me made the atmosphere less comfortable.
The pool was fine. I was disappointed that it was closed for several hours every afternoon.
The bathroom in the lobby costs 1 euro to use for hotel guests and the public.
The reception staff were friendly. As a head up you do pay tourist tax of 3 euros per person per night which was clearly communicated at checkin. Checkout is at 10:00 and the hotel stored our luggage in a room by the lobby until our bus arrived to depart Bohinj. They seemed to be watching the luggage area but I would not leave anything valuable in there was they do not check luggage tags or lock the door, at least on the day we were there.

1 star.
During my stay, a tour guide — a known regular at this hotel — made racist remarks toward our group, calling us “dumb Americans” and “idiots” directly to staff while they stood by and said nothing. When I told him to stop and to knock it off with the racial remarks because he was being racists and putting down folks like myself who were in fact from The States, he continued to escalate. The staff not only failed to intervene annd actively supported this man, segregating our group from the main dining room to make his Dutch tour group more comfortable — at our expense.
The situation later escalated to him physically punching me in the hotel lobby, in front of staff, with no intervention.
When I formally complained, the hotel dismissed it, blamed the entire incident on a table dispute — which it was not. It was about their staff enabling racist behavior toward our group from the moment we arrived. Their response confirmed this guide is a “regular guest” and that there is no CCTV in the lobby.
A guest was punched by a man the staff knew, cheered on, and protected. I have filed a formal complaint with the Slovenian Consumers’ Association (ZPS).
Judge accordingly. If you are a woman who is not European, you are at risk from being harassed and attacked by this guide and this hotel will not keep you safe.
