Kimchee Gangnam Guesthouse

Seemed to attract a very friendly crowd in the common area, which has plenty of seating. All staff I met were very friendly. Reasonably priced for the expensive Gangnam area. Amenities not in pristine shape, but about average for a hostel. I stayed in this guesthouse for three night, in a mixed dormitory with 10 beds. The room itself was quite big, and I appreciated the fact that even if it was full it was silent, during the night I could sleep. This hostel is located in a very good position, only 2 minutes from the metro station, so it's very easy to visit the city from there; you can also have a walk and reach the center of Gangnam-gu area in less than 30 minutes. There's also a common room with a kitchen, I never used it but it looked functional if you want to cook your own meal inside. Actually the only problem that I noticed was about the reception: they are not 24h open, but only from 9 am to 11 pm. In addiction they are not there in the morning from 11 to I don't remember what time because they are cleaning, then they make a lunch break so they are absent for another hour and in the end they have another break for dinner, so from 6.30 pm to 7.30 nobody's there. When I arrived it was around 7 pm and I didn't know about this dinner break, it's not mentioned anywhere on their website or social media, so I had to wait for while to check-in. Anyway this is a good compromise if you don't want to spend lot of money in accommodation and you want to be very close to public transports.

Although the rating of this guesthouse is very high, I cannot imagine how they reached it. I arrived at Kimchee at 1 am and after 11 pm you need to check in by yourself. I found my name and the room number on the list of guests but there was no key left in the key box. I tried to check the room but the door was closed. After 9-hour flight the only thing I wanted was to have a shower and go to bed. In 30 min I decided to check the room once again and, what do you think? There was a young guy whom I woke up after knocking at the door for 3 minutes. He let me in, grabbed his things and disappeared in the dark corridor. I had nothing to do but to stay in the dirty room because it was too late to search for another place. I spent a terrible night without bed linens because I had to remove the already used ones, so I just slept on a bare mattress. In the morning the admin just said sorry after I explained what happened and even didn't suggest a refund for that night, so I paid the full price. And overall, the whole place is very untidy and shabby. I can't stand writing bad reviews, but, guys, please respect your clients.
