We stayed at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Barcelona and, overall, the experience was positive, even if some aspects of the service left us rather perplexed.
Already at check-in, we encountered a rather cold welcome and long wait times, despite having checked in online. We had also requested the possibility of an early check-in twice via email, but the responses received were rather evasive and did not provide us with a concrete solution.
We also did not find much willingness regarding late check-out: although we were willing to pay a possible supplement, we were only granted one extra hour of room use, despite having verified the presence of free rooms on Booking. It is a shame, because a little more flexibility would have significantly improved the experience.
The room on the 12th floor, on the other hand, we liked a lot: quiet, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The only negative note regarding the cleaning service: at 4 PM the room had not yet been made up and we had to urge the staff.
The breakfast was very positive, certainly one of the hotel's strong points: wide selection, good quality products, and a varied offering for both sweet and savory. It was very much appreciated.
The terrace with pool is also beautiful, offering a pleasant environment and a truly evocative view of the city, the sea, and, in the distance, the Sagrada Família. The service at the bar was very good. The only note concerns the cleanliness of the pool water, which could be taken care of more.
As for the location, the hotel is located in a peripheral but modern area, well served by the metro and taxis. The beach can be reached in about 10 minutes and in the immediate vicinity there is also a shopping center, a definitely convenient aspect for a stay.
In conclusion
The Leonardo Royal Hotel Barcelona has a beautiful structure, comfortable rooms, an excellent breakfast, and a very pleasant panoramic terrace. The location is convenient for getting around thanks to the metro and taxis.
The real point to improve, however, is the customer service: the welcome at check-in, the handling of advance requests, the lack of flexibility regarding late check-out, and the timing of the cleaning service were not up to the standard of the rest of the property.
Ultimately, a hotel that has excellent potential and several strengths, but where we would have expected more attention and availability toward guests.

A very disappointing experience, despite a beautiful view
Unfortunately, our stay at this establishment was marked by a succession of problems that are not worthy of the standard that the hotel seems to want to display.
The main problem concerns, first of all, the air conditioning, which proved to be totally ineffective. The temperature in the room was particularly high and made the nights very uncomfortable. When we reported the problem, the first explanation given to us by the staff was, to say the least, surprising: "It's because you took a room with an ocean view, there is more sun hitting it, so it's hotter."
After several complaints, another explanation was finally given to us: the ventilation supposedly had a problem.
The proposed solution consisted of changing rooms to a room with a city view. However, we had specifically paid to enjoy an ocean view. No commercial gesture or financial compensation was offered to us for this difference in service.
Unfortunately, the problems did not stop there. We had to ask three times before getting pool towels. Several repairs in the room also took up to three days: closet door impossible to open, toilet constantly running, clogged sink, and a water leak.
Once the repairs were completed, the room was returned to us in a very unsatisfactory state of cleanliness, which forced us to complain once again so that cleaning could be done. During the interventions, our cards used to open the room door also disappeared, forcing us once again to go to the front desk to get new ones.
More generally, the housekeeping clearly leaves something to be desired: bed with stains, dirt under the sink, and, above all, a particularly regrettable lack of respect for our personal belongings.
This last point is probably what shocked us the most. Chargers were thrown on the floor and, even more seriously, my wife's toiletry bag was opened and her things ended up spilled on the ground. This type of behavior is totally unacceptable, regardless of the circumstances of an intervention in an occupied room.
The view of the sea is certainly pleasant and constitutes, in our eyes, the only real positive point of our stay. Even the pool left us perplexed: the water was particularly cloudy and its state of cleanliness did not inspire confidence in us.
In summary, we felt like we had to constantly ask for services that should have been provided naturally, not to mention the lack of consideration for our personal belongings. Unfortunately, a beautiful view is not enough to compensate for so many malfunctions.
For an establishment of this category, the level of service and maintenance observed is very disappointing. We were hoping for a very different experience and therefore cannot recommend this hotel as it stands.

Female solo traveler, LOVED it here. Large clean room with a huge shower/tub and the best water pressure and AC in Europe, water restocked in room every day, 10 minute walk to the beach, across the street from a mall for anything you need, taxis always waiting outside the hotel, beautiful pool with outstanding service all around; about 15-20 minute cab ride to main attractions like Sagrada Família, will absolutely stay here again!
