Hotel Medicis

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Medicis August 7-9. We are very happy with the choice. There is little difference from a three-star hotel, except for the lack of a restaurant. But because of its extraordinary location, you do not miss where to eat. 24h reception very useful for our flight schedules, for the service to leave luggage a few hours after check-out, and for the very kind attention of all the receptionists. Very comfortable and clean room. Ideal for travelers like us who need a comfortable and clean hotel to rest and spend a lot of time discovering the city. I would repeat without hesitation.

I spent four days here on my visit to Barcelona. I encountered some issues on my stay here, but overall for the price I paid, it was fine. I would probably choose somewhere else to stay if I went back. Pros: close to the metro. Short walk to Sagrada Família. Very near to McDonald’s and other cheap eats. Room has aircon. Towels provided in room. Room has a balcony with a chair which is nice. 24 hour reception. WiFi was ok. Room has tea/coffee/kettle etc. They have complimentary luggage storage after check out, though I did not use this service. Cons: for the amenities to work (aircon/fridge) your keycard has to stay in the slot the entire time. They only give you one so you have to ask for another which seems silly - they should just give you two when you check in. There is a bit of a language barrier with the staff which caused some confusion. The TV in the room barely had signal so I didn’t get to use it much (the staff didn’t know how to fix it). The phone didn’t work in my room so I kept having to go down to the reception desk when I had an issue (I was on the top floor and the lift is very slow). I also had to pay the local taxes on check in which was strange as usually this is paid on check out. Hotel is on a bit of an uphill so it was not easy to walk back after a day out walking in the heat. The room is very small - it was hard to get out to the balcony because the table in the room was too big so there was a small gap between the bed and table to get to the balcony door.

Good location less than 10 minute walk to the basilica, quieter area with nearby eateries, mini supermarkets, gift shops etc. good value, just a basic single room with a fridge, small wardrobe, private shower and toilet with a hairdryer. Bed was comfortable and a decent size for a small room. Small balcony area overlooking the road. There is a taxi rank just outside which was handy. Only complaint was the walls are very thing and you can hear other TVs and phone audio etc, I had to sleep with the air on and extractor fan on to drown out noise from other guests.
