Catalonia Square

On arrival all was well and we were happy with our room although slightly unsure of the area. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience entering the hotel after our day out. It’s very unsafe and please be aware of everyone around you on entering. Hotel was unhelpful to the situation.

I stayed from August 9th to the 13th. It was a stay for a family of four across three generations, and the location was perfect for each age group. Currently, the area within walking distance of the department store covers almost all tourist and shopping spots, and the convenience of being able to quickly walk back, especially during this hot season, is unmatched. The restaurant was very clean, and there was a wide variety of breakfast breads and ham, so I ate breakfast here for three days and never got tired of it. Especially at the restaurant, the women who wore glasses treated me very politely and kindly, making every morning a pleasant day. The room has ample space throughout, and it is equipped with a refrigerator and espresso maker, and a wide security box that can fit a laptop is installed. It is a room with a balcony directly facing the main street, but the noise inside was completely shut out and quiet due to the double-glazed windows. The shower room and toilet are separated by glass doors, and the water pressure in the shower is adequate. The washbasin was equipped with a magnifying mirror, and all necessary amenities were provided. Since there was no switch that looked like an exhaust fan, it might be ventilated 24 hours a day, but I feel like the steam is draining a little slowly. On the last day, due to a flight cancellation, I stayed at another large chain hotel, but I felt that Catalonia Square was overwhelmingly better in terms of rooms, convenience, and hospitality, even though the other one was supposed to be more expensive.

Our experience was not good; we stayed in the Imperial Suite for a six-night stay. From the first moment, we asked about the pool's heating. If the temperature could be turned up a little. They informed us that it could not. That it was fine as it was, that it could not be adjusted, it was predetermined. During the day it was at a pleasant temperature (due to the high temperatures hitting Barcelona), but since there is no awning, it cannot be used until the sun starts to set, and even less so with a baby, since the heat is unbearable, and at night the water is cold when it should be heated. When the sun went down and the pool water held its heat, it was fine, but only for a short time. Such was our surprise that on Monday, when we were returning from breakfast, the maintenance manager asked us if he could perform the pool maintenance tasks. While performing maintenance, he detected that it was turned off, with a low water level. He explained to us that he was absent for three weeks and that another colleague should have been in charge of those tasks (another colleague from another nearby hotel belonging to the same hotel chain), but apparently in the case of our room, it seems that was not the case. He got it ready with the optimal temperature, and on Monday afternoon we were able to use it (even if it was only for a few hours). I found it such a rip-off that I made a complaint to the front desk manager. And in a very haughty manner, he replied that the last PH and CHLORINE check was performed last Friday and that he himself had been in charge of those tasks. He could show me the values... but stick to what you know, as they say... no matter how many levels are checked, the anomalies should have been detected, so I very much fear that no one checked the pool in the absence of the maintenance technician. He told us that we had a lot of patience... Regarding the half-board plan, A DISAPPOINTMENT (it differs from what was explained before booking), it is a menu with three options to choose one dish from the first option, another dish from the second option, and dessert. But for long stays, it is not worth it since it is always the same menu. The food is reheated; it is not made to order. They spice and garnish it very well, but that is it, reheated food. The breakfast service is fine; it is varied, leaning towards average. But on weekends and holidays the schedule ends at 11:00. At 10:49 on Sunday, August 16, 2026, everything was already packed up. Another drawback is that they squeeze the juice themselves into a pitcher, leaving it very hot when you go to drink it, and it is oxidized. It does not seem natural. They do not let you use the machine right away. Besides being very pushy—"Coffee?", "Another piece of toast?"... they do not leave you alone. The room cleaning service was mediocre, leaning toward poor. We were not able to occupy the room until 15:00. We were waiting for more than an hour. The glass in the outdoor area was absolutely disgusting. One of the glasses in the main bathroom had not been changed for a long time as it had an insect in it (photo attached). They almost always forgot to leave towels for the outdoor area. Just like the bottle of water for belonging to the hotel membership. The water kettle had been misused; they boiled milk in it and it was crusted at the bottom of the kettle... we wanted to use it to boil water for the baby's bottle, but being in that condition, we did not want to use it. The bed is very large and comfortable. We found the hotel staff to be very attentive and helpful. In fact, the duvet cover and the duvet on the bed had to be changed (due to an unforeseen incident with the baby) and at first we had to do it ourselves (which we were willing to do and did not mind at all) since the cleaning service only worked until 15:00. In the end, someone from the front desk did it; they had to stay past their scheduled hours. And they gave us a card to pay them homage. Regarding the price paid and the services offered, we feel ripped off. Since the night, in our case, is around €500 and differs from what was booked.
