Girona

I was last in Barcelona 20 years ago and always vowed to return when Sagrada Familia was more complete. I enjoyed my stay at Hostal Girona then and so it was great to come again knowing it is still run by the same family. The location was great for us as we spent most of our time exploring the Eixample area on this visit. But buses and trains were easy to access; plenty of eating options and supermarkets in close proximity. We were in room number 12 this time, it was cosy, well appointed with a great bathroom and very much appreciated air conditioning. All staff interactions were friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was perfect for us with plenty of options in savoury and sweet. It was also nice having that space available across the day given our room was not so big, and to either use the coffee machine or fill water bottles. We had not issues with noise and slept well on comfortable beds. The rooms were well serviced each day. I would love to return, hopefully it won't take another 20 years!

The hostal is in an old apartment building and still retains many period features including beautifully tiled floors. The room is spacious and bright with a lovely balcony. Location wise it's close to the metro and other areas of interest. It's a small place so it does feel homely and the staff are nice. The coffee in the kitchen and little lounge area are nice to chill in. The street could be a little loud at night on the weekend but it's a city centre at weekend!

tayed 5 nights at Hostal Girona with my son for $900, which was absolutely not worth it. We were given room 8 — tiny, no sunlight, and extremely noisy. When I asked to change rooms, I was first told nothing was available, then suddenly offered other rooms only after mentioning friends arriving the next day. Very inconsistent. On top of that, both my friends and I were overcharged for the tourist tax. I was charged 88$ when in fact it was half the amount, the same did happen to my friends. When I asked for a refund, the receptionist ( man late 40s early 50s) became aggressive and rude, shouted ( you know what American) offensive remarks, and even tried to take my phone. It was a scary and unacceptable experience, especially with a child.
