The hotel is quite good, not so much for a 4-star, clean rooms, something more modern would not be bad, to be honest.

Firstly, all the staff during our stay were extremely helpful and very friendly. The hotel was very presentable both in the public areas, corridors and rooms.
Will we be returning? Almost certainly not, for the following reasons.
The check in process was a bit of a nightmare. Having to “sign” a tablet four times, using one’s finger, when the said tablet is on a stand at an angle proved to be almost impossible and did not reflect any true signature I have ever produced on paper. The management would be well advised to change this to a detachable tablet with some form of stylus.
The real no, no for us was the layout of the accommodation. The bathroom facilities were not acceptable. There was no division between the wash basin, mirror and hair drying facilities and the sleeping area. Although there was a door from that area to the toilet/shower area it was of a glazed variety. The whole of the “bathroom” area was visible to anyone lying in bed, to such an extent that anyone using the toilet and/or shower area could be seen in profile. In addition, anyone needing to use the toilet during the night, and requiring light for any reason, would illuminate the whole of the sleeping area thus disturbing any other occupant. The location of the hair dryer meant that the noise from its use precluded anyone else watching the television. The silly thing is that given the layout of the room it would have been so easy for a proper division of the sleeping and bathroom areas to be achieved. The management would be well advised to retrofit such a division as soon as possible. Until such time, although there were two large, and comfortable single beds, the room is only suitable for single person occupancy.
As Sercotel is a chain I won’t be staying in any of their hotels without checking the room layouts before I book.
We ate in the in-house restaurant, which although there were challenges, we would probably return to at a different, warmer, time of the year. One of the reasons that we stayed in the hotel was that I was attracted to the idea of dinning in an old railway carriage. The overall booking process for the restaurant was a delight and because of that I cancelled a reservation in a different hotel so that we could stay “on-site”. I was able to engage in a rather long whatsapp conversation covering taxis and parking possibilities. The person on the other end was able to guide me through the booking process and ensure that my reservation was for the “carriage” rather than the usual room. So, I was able to book a table for the Friday night when they opened at 21:00 – a not unusual opening time in Spain. This was on a cold night in March and the carriage was not physically connected to the hotel. It did feel warm when we entered but as we moved down the carriage to our table it became much colder. Fortunately, those guests, such as ourselves were able to return to our rooms for additional layers of clothing. The menu and wine list were on a dreaded tablet and I had to keep calling the waitress back to assist in the navigation, especially the wine section. We only ever saw one waitress, but like all the other staff we met in the hotel she was very cheerful and helpful. The food was well presented and the first courses larger than we expected, so we were able to share. The plates for our warm dishes were cold, as was I believe, the serving plate for our monk fish. Once I’d found the wine list on my phone, I discovered that there was a wide selection of wines by the glass – so I was able to have small personal wine tasting. We were the last to leave the carriage by which time the hotel had locked the back doors that we had been led through to access it. Faced with a walk around the city block, without overcoats we boldly walking into the kitchens through their back door and requested passage back to reception!
So, to improve the experience the management needs to ensure that the whole of the carriage is an acceptable temperature during the winter months. Some form of plate warmer needs to be available in the carriage. Our fantastic waitress needs more help. Finally doors should not be locked before all hotel guests have returned to their accommodation.
