Altamar Aparthotel

this was my12th year at the altamar and this hotel is above the 3 stars it has been given.the whole holiday experience is great from day 1 until the time you leave.the apartments are very adequate and roomy .they now have air con which is very welcome. your balcony is well appointed and have a beautiful view over the ocean. the pool areas are well furnished with sunloungers .the restaurant is great, nice food and a great variety. the waiters and waitresses and bar staff are very friendly and contrary to what some people say they do try and interact with the clients. the one criticism is they ued to play bingo at 4 in the afternoon with gazza the entertainment head man but it has now stopped, it sed to have a prize of around 200 euros.now the best you can hope for is a bottle of cheap plonk. bring back gazza and inject some life back into the afternoons..since servatur has taken over the atmosphere seems to have taken a backward step, its a great hotel so lets try and get it back to its former status.

Hotel was nice and the food was amazing but everyday there was no music in the pool and you couldn't even use a floaty nor playing with any type of ball and not jumping in the pool to many times. Also when you wanted to get to the 6th floor to go out of the complex it would take ages and when you got into the hotel you couldn't put your luggage in the elevator at once if you have big suitcases. It's hard to get to your room and will kill your legs off if you want to walk up the stairs. But the best part about it was there was a super market down the road where you could get cheaper excursions and would definitely recommend the drag queen show for a good laugh. But altogether it wasn't the best. The sea view was absolutely incredible and the entertainment was horrid sat eating when someone sings karaoke everyday

We’ve just returned home after a wonderful week-long self-catering stay at the Altamar. The transfer from the airport took around an hour, which was straightforward enough. Finding our apartment was a little challenging, and it took us around 45 minutes to locate it. However, once we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. We had booked a two-bedroom apartment, and our adult daughter had her own private entrance to her room. We all shared a huge balcony equipped with four sun loungers, four chairs, a table, and a parasol. The apartment itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is quite large and boasts stunning sea views. There are two swimming pools: one located near the bar and another without a bar, which we found to be much quieter and more relaxing. Inflatable toys and balls are not permitted in the pools, although young non-swimming children can use armbands or a rubber ring. Pool towels are provided by the hotel. We ate lunch at the snack bar on several occasions and were very impressed by both the quality and the generous portion sizes. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, with the exception of one member of staff in the Spar shop who came across as rather unfriendly. The Spar itself is well stocked, although prices are slightly higher than elsewhere. The lift system operates more like a funicular-style lift, and there can sometimes be a wait, particularly as some floors appeared to be out of service. Walking downhill was easy enough, but the climb back up was very steep. Because of this, I would not recommend the hotel for guests with mobility issues. We walked to Amadores Beach, which took about 20 minutes, mostly downhill. The beach is beautiful, and we enjoyed several evening meals there. For the return journey, we took a taxi costing approximately €5-€6. There is a bus stop and taxi rank directly outside the hotel, and taxis were always readily available with very little waiting time. The Europa Centre is around a 10-minute walk from the hotel and offers a variety of bars and restaurants. While some people may enjoy the lively atmosphere, we personally found it a little dated and not particularly well maintained. Instead, we preferred the main shopping centre in Puerto Rico, which was only a short taxi ride away. Be prepared, however, for restaurant staff actively encouraging customers to dine at their establishments. Overall, I would recommend the Altamar. The spectacular views and large balconies really make it stand out. It offers good value for money and delivers exactly what you would expect from a three-star property. Rating: 4/5
