Just returned from another great stay at the Axel. The hotel is a bit dated but it is still an excellent 3*, very clean and well managed establishment. The big selling points are the staff (especially the lovely Carmen), fantastic housekeeping that work non-stop and the location. It has a great pool area and always loads of sun loungers . Friday and Saturday they have pool parties, it’s not my personal thing but loads of people love them and you get a lot of day visitors. The rooms are one bedroom, a little dated but very clean. This was my first time visiting in July and was a little surprised by the number of straight guests - but it is heterosexual friendly and adults only so maybe not too surprising. Definitely will be returning.

One of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had. Check-in took around 40 minutes due to incredibly slow and disorganised staff. The room was dated, dirty and poorly maintained. Every shower flooded the bathroom and water ran into the living area. The air conditioning stopped working for most of our stay, and despite repeated complaints we were given little information or updates. Other guests told us it had been broken for over a week. We were eventually given a fan, and the AC only worked for our final two nights. We also had to kill one or two large cockroaches in our room almost every morning. The breakfast was poor with very limited quality or choice. The pool and surrounding grounds are tired, messy and in desperate need of cleaning and repainting. There was also a constant sewage smell around the hotel, and the towels looked old and worn out. This hotel is nothing like the photos and certainly not worth the money.

When I first arrived at the Axel, I was fairly disappointed in the rooms property… I had booked the nicest (or at least the most expensive) room type available, and was met with a much darker, out of date, dingy room that was clearly not shown as much care as the model photo, and a stone slab bed to sleep on. Fine. The staff was very friendly upon arriving, and I was determined to have a good time. However, after returning the following evening after a day of exploring, I made eyes with a cockroach scurrying across the wall and decided unfortunately that needed to be the end of my stay. I made my way down to the front desk to voice, my concerns, where I was met with a woman who I hadn’t met who seemed to want to understand my concerns. I packed My bags and came back down to make my way to my new accommodations. I was with a very angry older gentleman who instead of offering even the slightest apology, informed me that I signed a contract and that I would be paying for that night because it was past 12. I truly wanted no compensation for the issue, even after the hassle of me having to rebook at a last minute rate at another property. I just asked to pay for the night that I did stay and be refunded for the rest of the trip. I eventually left having to pay for the additional night that I didn’t stay because of the health issue, with a manager‘s email who has yet to message me back. I thankfully found an Airbnb (amongst many options) that is much nicer, cleaner, brighter, more welcoming, and hospitable than the Axel hotel was, at a much cheaper rate per night! I will be sure to avoid this property in the future.
