Esterri Park

We booked on booking.com for oct 14-15. Two nights. We did the booking at 19:00 pm on the 14. We chose the option offered in the choice to check in between 1-2 am because we had to drive and As written in the infos we add a comment that we would arrive late at 2 am. We showed up everything in the village was closed, as well as the hotel and according to a paper in the window that was closed till friday oct 17 !!! But on booking.com we were able to book !! Anyway there was 2 phone no we called the first was not answering and the second was out of service. Real fun...had to sleep in the car at 4 celsius....

This hotel is in an excellent location for exploring the nearby National Park. It's easy to find, and has plenty of car parking space. And it was the cheapest option in the area, when we booked. For this kind of money you shouldn't expect too much. Our room was a decent size, furnishings were a bit “tired”, and the twin beds needed new mattresses. The bathroom was OK, and clean. Water was usually hot in the evening, but often lukewarm in the morning. Wi-Fi broadband was available free of charge, despite what it said on the Booking dot com website. The bedroom walls were a bit thin, so privacy and unwanted noise could be issues. Around the hotel there was evidence of lack of maintenance, in cracked tiles, broken glass, non-functioning corridor light switches, and discoloured paintwork. Breakfast was fine in principle, with plenty of variety, but get there early if you want hot black coffee. The heater in the urn was broken when we were there, and fixing it might take them a while! There's hot milk in an urn whose heater does work. An unusual thing about breakfast is that hotel staff don't bother clearing the tables after people have departed. This means that the room steadily fills up with messy tables. There were plenty of tables to go round when we stayed at the Esterri Star, but it's somehow disconcerting to be sitting down to a meal surrounded by other people's waste. Notwithstanding our irritations with the hotel and its service failings, we extended our stay there because of its location and price. A decent place to eat in the evening is the Hostal Val d'Aneu, directly opposite the Esterri Park.
