Cantabrico

My wife and I have stayed on the motorhome aire in Lierganes several times and have had numerous good meals in this lovely town. Our last visit was a few weeks ago and we decided to try the menu del dia for €10 We had a bottle of chilled red wine with a bottle of casera ( a cross between lemonade and soda water) a refreshing light lunchtime drink when mixed. My starter was mountain stew my wife chose a chicken noodle soup both came in large metal tureens and were left with us to help ourselves. Very generous portions and both were delicous typical Cantabrian rural food. My second course was the largest roast duck leg I have had the pleasure of enjoying. My wife went with the lighter option of a large prawn omelette which she enjoyed. The desserts we chose were a creme pat filled roulade and a lemon mousse both were good. Bearing in mind we paid €10 each and we have been eating menu del dias all over Spain for over 50 years. This meal which coincidentally was served on very expensive Villeroy & Bosch plates by a friendly waiter represents great value. We will definetely be returning.

I'm giving this hotel 4 stars because of where it is, not what it is. And I should say that this review is badly out of date since I haven't been there in 13 years so much may have changed. I read from more recent reviews that it still doesn't have air conditioning so it's not a good option for warm weather. The room I was in was quite small with no view at all. However, it's in the perfect location, just a block from Plaza Sol and two blocks from the metro stop. Everything you'll want to see in Madrid is within an easy trip from here. The best thing about the hotel is that it's just a couple of blocks from Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, a truly awesome place to sit at a cafe, enjoy tapas and drinks, and watch Madrid go by. That alone is worth putting up with a less than ideal hotel.

The hostel is good located close to bars and clubs also in the main turist central area in madrid. The bad things about it are the elevator that is old the rooms very smalls not AC not Fan not TV Remote Control besides that is good for saving money and just to spend the night
