The location is spot on, and the staff are genuinely charming, warm, helpful, and in the case of the receptionist, entertainingly witty (she described my "Standard Room with Views" with a perfectly straight face — points for creativity).
Breakfast is varied and well worth it.
Where it falls short is the room itself. For a Standard Room with Views, expectations weren't unreasonable. Yet the room showed marks on the walls, dusty corners, curtains that were probably white at some point, a crumbling side table, a tired armchair, and a bathroom overdue for a refresh. The AC adds a gentle background hum to the ambiance. No kettle either, which feels like an oversight at this price.
A deep clean and some renovation investment would make the nightly rate much easier to justify.

The deal breaker for me was the lack of a rubber bathmat. I asked the cleaner for one and she told me to contact reception. They said that there weren't any and we should put a towel in the bath. We like to have a bath and it isn't acceptable to expect people to lie on a wet towel! The shampoo and soap dispensers are positioned for people having a shower and could not be reached when taking a bath. We ended up buying our own soap, shampoo and conditioner as it was too dangerous to try and get up and reach for the products. I suggest that the hotel keeps a stock of half a dozen bathmats for people to use on request.
Breakfast staff were good and generally the quality of the food was fine except for the one day we tried the croquettas which were of a very poor quality. Best not to serve them at all.
The size of the room was excellent - we stayed in a premium double. There wasn't sufficient drawer/shelf space for a stay of 6 nights though.
We only interacted with reception staff at check-in and check-out. There was no greetings when we passed by and when I asked Juan Carlos a question I felt like I had interrupted his work. Not very welcoming!
The room was kept very clean and the cleaning staff were very friendly.
Location was ideal but we missed having a late night drink in the bar as the hotel didn't have one.
I am a loyal Melia customer and always like to choose a Melia hotel whenever possible and expected more. This is the same star rating as Casa de las Artes but is miles away in terms of comfort, amenities and service. This is more like a 3 star hotel.

The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming throughout, which made a good first impression and added a personal touch to the experience.
However, the room itself felt quite tired and on the small side, lacking the comfort you’d expect for a more relaxing stay. It would definitely benefit from some updating. Also, the absence of tea and coffee making facilities in the room was disappointing and felt like a basic amenity that should be included.
Overall, an okay stay thanks to the staff, but the accommodation itself needs some attention.
