A very disappointing stay.
Our experience at this hotel was quite negative and, honestly, it is hard for us to understand some positive reviews after what we experienced during our stay.
As soon as we arrived we found sand in the room and, upon sitting on the balcony chairs, we were covered in dust and sand because they were not clean either. The mirrors were dirty and the balcony glass door as well, and during our stay the glass was not cleaned. There was also one day when the room cleaning was not done at all. The beds were made quite poorly and the sheets were not changed a single day during our entire stay. The towels were also stained. The room’s television did not work and, although they told us it was due to a hurricane, we could see that it was working in other nearby hotels. The room also did not have a refrigerator, something we considered quite impractical.
But the worst part, without a doubt, was the food. The quality seemed terrible to us and the variety was practically nonexistent. The breakfast was practically the same every day. The fried eggs were one of the few things that could be saved; the bacon left a lot to be desired and even the boiled vegetables were really bad. The fresh cheese had a taste that reminded us of plastic.
Furthermore, the jams were served in large shared bowls instead of individual containers, something we found unhygienic. We also saw an empty and visibly dirty pot next to the soup pot, in plain view of the customers, giving a rather careless impression.
On another occasion there was a dish labeled as “seafood.” We asked what kind of seafood it was and the person serving did not know how to tell us what it contained. Finally, we saw that it was a squid stew.
Another detail that really caught our attention happened during dinner. At 9:30 PM, when the service was supposedly ending at 10:00 PM, they began to remove the identification signs for the dishes. A customer complained and the waiter replied to her literally: “Don’t give me a hard time.” When we asked him why they were removing the signs, he explained to us that he was doing it to get a head start. We do not think that is an appropriate way to treat customers while the service is still open.
The dining experience was so bad that we finally decided to stop having dinner at the hotel and eat out.
What we do want to highlight positively are the night shift waitresses, who were very nice and always served us with great kindness, and Mikel, at the front desk, who was kind and attentive to us.
We do not expect luxuries from a 3-star hotel, but we do expect minimums in cleanliness, maintenance, food quality, and customer service. In our case, we consider that those minimums were not met.
